Say hi to him, source_ex@hotmail.com. Although I do think this whole thing is outta line, I believe to a certain extent that what has been said is true. There is no reason to believe otherwise. Just cause we don't have the game, (which was due Sept. 30) doesn't mean they have something other than the game. I believe those who want to make a name for themselves in the crackin community will look for large targets. But not HUGE. Note that blaster was left to script kiddies. We all know now that that code was poorly written. This hack into Valve was pure evil to get the most anticipated game of the century, and gain a name. I only sense that we as a community of Neowin need to mind our IT jobs (if thats what you do) seriously. Social Engineering is something I have taken quite a interest in, and I am pretty good too.. I talk to businesses all over explaining how, and what it's capable of. With IDS systems and harder hashing, to just take a computer and hack is near impossible. But with the right info, you can get in. This is what Valve said occured. I believe that someone used SE to gain info on software used, and the movement/placement of network resources. Hence, it wasn't a shot in the dark to use that spoit. Just the gift of gab ;)
