Wow, that looks awesome :D. I wonder why no big tech news sites have done anything on this?

Definitely cool. My skeptical side is asking why they couldn't place it in the middle of a room, why install it in the wall like that? But I want to believe it!

Behind the glass-screen they have build a tiny city and also fitted a powerful light to recreate realistic conditions. A light, which is being used to replicate sunlight, might be a little blinding for people.

And also, the positioning is realistically accurate. You don't have windows in the middle of a room.

I'm thinking the setup could have been an optimal solution. Would the blinds work as well if it were in the middle of a room? And she mentioned that it's essentially one-way glass, but we can't see how well that works without seeing the other side. It's still impressive and it would be awesome if it does work as well as they say, but we can't tell for sure from this demonstration.

Agreed.

THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE!

Minority report it is...

So many use's..

Shop windows, outside restaurants menus etc.

I think the greatest fear with this technology will be that, imagine you are doing something private behind your windows, and WHAM! it becomes transparent again,

because someone hacked into your "smart-windows".

So... what does it look like at night? Can you even see what's on the screen with solid black behind it?

good question... look though your window at night... should be something similar.

We always have a light on, outside our house. And there several street lamps too. So we will be fine. :)

And a thought just occurred to me. You can really scare a person, if you ran a video of a thief or an armed person, looking through the window.

As far as night goes they show in at least one demo video an edge backlight system that can be turned on.

I'm not so sure about how much this will be used in windows, but I can definitely see it being used for things like advertisements and maps in shopping malls. Some place where you want to have a large interactive display without the user feeling closed off when up close and using it.

In the future, we will have phones and laptop etc like this.

When they have squeezed everything down into a tiny Microchip.

It will probably be developed by Intel and sold out to Apple :D
