So, here's a question which I thought would be interesting to ask. Would you use BBM if it came to other platforms? And to current BB users, would you jump ship if BBM came to other platforms?

Personally, I would. Quite a fair few of my friends use BBM, and as a current Windows Phone user, if they managed to integrate it into the messaging app I'm certain it would get some heavy use :)

I see it being something like AOL instant messenger ... there was a point in time when everyone had it and was utilizing it... and now it's all but dead. I dont think if it became multi platform everyone would start using it either.

BBM Is used A LOT around my circles in the UK US and Europe. U cannot get away from it to the point Young (Read 9 - 39) people are buying Blackberries on PAYG even though they already have another handset just so they can use BBM. It isnt going anywhere for now either.

If it was ported to iOS I would make the switch from my BlackBerry to an iPhone in a heartbeat. Alas RIM doing this is as likely as a nun having intercourse. BBM is what is keeping BlackBerry consumers (not corporations) using the service if it was ported they would mostly switch.

No, because it has BB appended to it. If you want a cross platform messenger don't name it dumb things like BBM or iWhatever. Skype seems to be the closest thing right now.

I don't see the point of it, especially when ?10 a month can get you unlimited texts and unlimited internet data anyway. I'd either just text people, or use Facebook chat.

I would use it. I had a Blackberry for 3 years, switched to Android, and BBM is the only thing I miss. I know lots of people who have BB's purely because of BBM, and I end up being the odd one out because my messages are just text messages.

Yes. I have a lot of friends that use BBM so it would be great to be able to use it on another platform.

It's more than just instant messaging. You can create groups to chat with multiple people, share files as well as your GPS location, and send messages to all or some of your contacts in the form of broadcast messages. You can also see when your contacts are typing a message and know when your message has been delivered and read. :)

i used to use bbm a lot when i had a BB and a lot of my friends had one. now most people i know have iphones. i would still use bbm if the app was free or 0.99 but the drive isn't the same as it once was

NO. I use whatsapp. I would say between whatsapp, viber, and trillian I have all of the IM, services that I need. And for those that mentioned groups.. Whatsapp does that too. It also let's you send pictures, videos, recordings, and map locations. Biggest advantage is that I don't have to pay international SMS fees to talk to my friends that are all over the world.

There's no point for me to use it. I don't know anyone who relies on BBM, and there are better cross-platform alternatives - Skype comes to mind.

No why would anyone need to... IM and twitter replace SMS and if need various sharing features skype, facebook, kakao and whatsapp cover most of them and they're well established on other platforms so why drag a dead app over expecting it to come back to life.

Why people would rather pay for additional services above data and plan amount just for this stuff when could just invest in high data and plan get better devices and equal or better services with it I will never know..
