Speaker replacement for ASUS Transformer

Recommended Posts

I have cracked open my Transformer because the left speaker was dead, it turns out it was the speaker and connecting the wires to other speakers works fine.

I pulled a loudspeaker from a cheap mobile phone and it worked fine, started putting it back together and it stopped working, and so did every other speaker I connected to it.

I thought I must have blown the output for that channel but after messing with headphones etc it started working again .

I dont want to connect that phone speaker back up to it incase it was too low impedance for the TF and cut the amp out (Although the other side was still working during the off time)

Was it just a loose wire and coincidence that other speakers were not working ? I did glue the wires on and wondered if that was 1. shorting it out, 2. stopping others working afterwards, or could the phone speaker be bad for the TF?

I know speakers can be tricky things (matching impedance etc). Does the original one have much info about the specs of it printed on it? I'm not sure of the damage you could do.

Does sound like something is possibly shorting somewhere. Have a good look at the headphone socket. I think these are switched internally to switch to using the headphones when connected. If that switch is screwy it could be causing problems.

Took me two attempts to realise that the part of the chassis I was putting the speaker terminals against was bare metal not coated or plastic like it looked - so was shorting it out, covered in tape, working well now

Thanks ;)

Nice one at least is is resolved. I thought of the socket as you said messing with headphones sorted it and I had a laptop I was having similar trouble with one and it was because something had become wedged in there.
