Customer shoots robbery suspect at SC Waffle Shop

AP) SPARTANBURG, SC ? Authorities say a customer at a South Carolina Waffle shop pulled a gun and shot one of two men trying to rob the restaurant.

The Greenville News reports (http://grnol.co/AkoQDk ) that the shooting took place early Saturday morning inside a Waffle Shop off Interstate 85 in Spartanburg County.

Coroner Rusty Clevenger identified the dead man as 19-year-old Dante Lamont Williams of Roebuck, who was shot in the head and body.

Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright declined to identity the customer, citing concerns for his safety. Authorities said the customer had a concealed weapon permit and tried to hold the two men at gunpoint until officers arrived, but that one suspect began to point his gun at the customer, who then fired shots. The second robber fled and is being sought by authorities.

Chalk one up for the good guys. The guy has the drop on you while making a citizens arrest and you don't surrender? Jeezzz...Darwin Award candidate for sure.

....hmmmm I guess the anti-gun nuts have nothing to whine about...not even "just because he had a gun and seemed to be moving to point it at you...doesn't mean he was really going to use it...should have just shot him in the leg"

As a gun owner and conceal carry holder who supports guns, these kinds of posts still annoy me because its the gun owners that ALWAYS seem to post them without any provocation to people on the other side. Might as well be trolling.

I don't like the American gun laws, but shooting someone after a warning if he tries to shoot you is 100% justified.

Justified it is. In most all states you have the right to defend others and to perform a citizens arrest. I've done a few myself.

This is all a matter of state law since they act like semi-autonomous nations under our Federalist system. The only state without concealed carry is Illinois, and citizens arrest is legal everywhere but South Carolina.
