alexalex
The new Nexus won't be sold in Israel. The Nexus was due to be sold next month by the 3 Israeli carriers. Israeli Samsung importer notified the Ministry of Communication that Google has notified Samsung they rejected implementing blocking certain Wi-fi N bands that conflict with military communication bands, and insisted on making those changes, if ever, themselves. All devices that utilize WI-Fi N sold in Israel have those military bands blocked by the manufacturers.

capr
so instead of making their networks secure, they don't let anyone purchase equipment that can get on the network. I guess that's one way to do it.

Japlabot
Well apart from not finding a source for this article, it is not uncommon for wireless bands to be restricted world wide as these bands were already in use when this technology was invented. It is impossible to clear spectrum world wide as every country has their own spectrum licensing. For example 802.11g Channels 12-14 is banned in North America and many other parts of the world. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels The band on these low-power devices using these frequencies is unlikely to cause much interference to the conflicting equipment, but if you allow their widespread use, they could come into range where the frequencies are actually in use and cause some inadvertent interference because the consumer didn't realise. To say that they shouldn't use those frequencies for military use as it's susceptible to interference is ridiculous. It is possible to make illegal transmissions on any frequency whether you allow the equipment to be imported or not eg: GPS jammers. Iran did one better, not just interfered with the GPS frequency but actually spoofed the protocol to bring that drone down. If you have ever configured a router before (eg: a Netgear), you will see that it has a region setting under Wireless settings and blocks out the frequencies that are not applicable to use legally for that region. If this is true, then Google/Samsung should just do what every manufacturer does around the world, and block these frequencies in the region specific firmware or when the firmware has that region configured in the settings. Same thing happened with iPad imports to Israel until Apple fixed the issue. I doubt very much that Google has an Anti-Israel agenda, is no different to any other market where the opportunity exists to make a profit. I also double that Hamas is going to smuggle Galaxy Nexus' into the country to give to their operatives to interfere with Israeli networks. They would be better off smuggling cheap Wireless N routers as they would be more powerful, but even still it would be more of an annoyance (having to go out and neutralise the slight interference) than a hindrance (actually being able to bring their entire communications network down). goretsky 1 Share

The source is in today's Israeli newspaper "Yediot Acharonot". Google hasn't an Anti-Israeli agenda but they refused Samsung change the Galaxy's specifications and that after the Israeli importer invested much in re-writing the OS to support full Hebrew UI. Basically, they are going to do the device R&D at Google itself, basically end-running Samsung - their own OEM. "Do no evil." Oh, really....
