Sadly saw a couple other reviews saying more or less the same thing... wait for a bargain bin sale, otherwise don't bother. Pity, was looking forward to this one.

Well, I'm picking mine up during lunch for ps3. I'm hoping that trailer posted above was on easy mode :p

Sadly saw a couple other reviews saying more or less the same thing... wait for a bargain bin sale, otherwise don't bother. Pity, was looking forward to this one.

I'm not really getting it for story though. Multiplayer is where this game should hopefully shine.

I am really enjoying the game so far. I'm not a graphics ######, so the UE3 based engine it uses it fine with me. I think the lighting and shadows look pretty good (and I would hope so for an Aliens game). The Xeno AI he showed in his video? Those are the basic soldier Xenos, they don't have much AI, Gearbox has said that time and again they literally just swarm you or run up to you. Big deal. I'm only about 45 minutes into the SP, and it seems pretty OK so far. I wasn't expecting some super awesome plot and ground breaking stuff here, don't know why anyone else was. The MP is also quite fun, I especially enjoy the Xeno stuff, though the whole Aliens "vision" stuff could be toned down a bit imo.

Whatever, everyone is entitled to their own opinions obviously. This guy can hate the game, and I can enjoy it for what it is.

After a good hour of playing this game, single player only, I'm enjoying it. On the PS3, it looks pretty good. I haven't seen any muddy textures yet that stand out or make anything bad. Also, that video above is on easy mode. I started on Hardcore mode, and the soldier xenos are tough as hell. They actually jump straight for you after a quick dodge, and I'm having to utilize my melee attack properly to ward them off. If you are playing this game on any setting other than Hardcore, you are only cheating yourself I'd say. I'm running low on ammo and health constantly so far.

Reviews aren't very encouraging so far. Mediocre gameplay and graphics. Multiplayer is fun but overall not a must have game.

Reviews and game play are looking horrible (bad AI, multiple graphics glitches, poor co-op, weak level design). I really enjoyed AVP 2010, but guess I'll put this one on hold until it's on Steam for < $5.

I'll try and get gameplay of how the Aliens react on Hardcore Mode. It is nothing like what you are seeing on these reviews. These reviews seem to be playing on some easy mode, and of course, a horror/action game on easy mode isn't going to be fun or entertaining.

Skip to 10:40 for the real action - On PS3 its just like this, except harder to aim with a controller :p

A shame, I was looking forward to a modern "Aliens" game. I'll probably still pick it up though, maybe after a patch or two. One of the major complaints in the poor AI... not sure any patch can easily fix that though.

I think this is just people who were expecting some tripple A new FPS type of game, but it doesn't deliver to that point. It's solid, and fans of the movie will enjoy it. I just think too many people expected too much. Also, if they made the aliens true killing machines, you would die every 5 seconds, or be on your back 95% of the time. It's just not sensible for normal AI to be insanly impossible or even hard.

We can look at almost any other FPS and see the same glitches. It's the engine. We can see the same AI too. I have yet to see a game do good Helping AI. Helpful AI is either done where they are godly good or totally blind and only get in the way. It's very hard to program good AI for things that are supposed to die off relatively quick.

I'm not saying this game is a 9/10, but most reviews seem waaay too harsh for what this game really is. I'd give it a solid 7/10.

This one says it all for me really. I was looking forward to this, especially the co-op, but yikes. Especially love the turret part - or lack thereof.

I think you guys should know how I feel. I think I"m around the 4th or 5th mission in now. Playing on Hardened difficulty. Well first of all, what the hell happened to the Dynamic lighting we were shown in E3? There's like no atmosphere in the game. Where is all the smoke and etc? The AI is alright I guess, but I don't know why characters (other marines) don't have collision boxes. I mean I literally see an Alien run through O Neil to come and attack me -.-. I was hoping for some scares like maybe when I unseal a door an Alien would pop out. I haven't seen any yet.

The Character models themselves aren't that great either, some have audio sync problems and they have absolutely no emotion when they talk. Speaking of audio sync, anyone having audio sync problems with the Pulse Rifle MK2? Sometimes I get a delay and the sound just doesn't match.

I guess I should just finish the game first before I say anymore, I haven't tried the multiplayer either yet. So I'll need to do that when I do finish the game. I am an Aliens fan, I even bought the Xbox 360 Collector's Edition. Apparently, that is THE worst version out there to get. *sigh*. Cool statue though.

I also got the pre-order Characters (for Multiplayer only) and Phase Plasma Rifle, Sonic Ball Breakers and Ripley's M41A ducttaped with the flamethrower and Newt's Tracker. It's very cool that you can use those Weapons off the start in SinglePlayer, and I have no idea where the included Firing Range map/Single Player section is. (As I said, not finished the game yet, so I don't know.)

I really hope Gearbox can fix the lighting and Smoke and AI script via patches. This game is still saveable. It's not that bad, as other people are ripping it apart. If you are going to show the environment and atmosphere of the game in the E3 demo, people are going to want to play the game you put out and so far, it's far from the demo. Looks like Gearbox took a step back from what they actually offered.

I know I'm getting it for 360, and I've already read the reviews the day it came out, but I don't care, looks like an awesome game to me.

I've wasted money on games that other people say are awesome games, and I didn't like em at all.

Take Forza Motorsport 4 for example, I bet many people here loved that game, and it got very high reviews.

I absolutely hated it, and racing games are my thing, more so than first person shooters.

Crap AI, and so many bugs!

Think twice before buying...

EDIT: I've put the link above in code tags, because the stupid forum kept putting the link in media tags, but it was extremely buggy and wasn't viewable.

Aren't encouraging? They're downright damning. I'm a huge fan of the Alien franchise but even I'm not going anywhere near this one. Gearbox has wrecked their reputation. Anybody that buys this is just encouraging this sort of behaviour in the future, especially if they do so after having seen the bad reviews and scathing user opinions.

I haven't actually played the game, but I really cannot imagine how someone who's a fan of the movie would enjoy this game. I have seen enough of the game to realise that the quaility bar is stageringly low, but I have also seen how the game plays out & the story is a joke.

Gearbox clearly don't care much for the Aliens franchise.

Well that comparison doesn't matter, because Forza 4, whether you like it or not, has a very high standard of quaility. That's why it got good reviews & has a huge community.

Aliens Colonial Marines does not have a high standard of quaility; it looks to be an utter travesty of a game in pretty much every sense of the word. That's why it's gotten such horrific reviews.

Its a disgrace, and they lied (or mislead) with the promotional trailers for this game. Nothing is as it was promised.

So I finished the Single Player today, and the ending is as confusing as the the question marks in my head watching Prometheus. The last boss fight was really stupid. There were some scares and some set pieces had their moments.

As I said before, it is really not that bad of a game, and I'll stick to it. There are some parts of the game I wouldn't want in, and there are some parts in the game I want changed. I know it's not going to happen, but playing Co-Op with friends really brings the game out; even without playing through the first time.

Gearbox should have set 'Hardened' to 'Soldier' difficulty, because I believe that's what it was supposed to be in the first place. I went back to see how the AI reacted and wow, it was such a difference. Aliens actually take some hits before they die. When I was playing Co-Op there were times my Pulse Rifle actually ran out of bullets. Still a very easy game, and I believe 'Ultimate Badass' difficulty is just a bit more difficult because of no HUD.

As I said before, they should just update the AI and lighting and really fix up this game. I had a blast playing it and I'm not saying this just because I'm a Aliens fan. Now on to Multiplayer.

I really think this is where it comes short. I went into a match of Survival thinking it was some sort of Horde mode or something. Guess not. 4v4 . The controls for the Alien are really bad. Maybe it's because I haven't got a clue on how to play it as there is no Alien mode for Single Player. I think I am going to just play a few more rounds before I judge it, but as of now, it's not that great. Besides, there are only like 4 maps or so.
