Man of Steel Features "Superman You've Never Seen Before"

Director Zack Snyder discusses his "more serious version" of Superman.

As well as discussing the legacy of Watchmen, director Zack Snyder has been teasing another one of his comic book adaptations this week – namely Man of Steel.

Speaking to the LA Times, Snyder explained “It’s a more serious version of Superman. It’s not like a heart attack. We took the mythology seriously. We take him as a character seriously. I believe the movie would appeal to anyone. I think that you’re going to see a Superman you’ve never seen before.”

As for his fascination with the character, Snyder says it’s “because he’s the father of all superheroes.”

“What was it about him that cracked the code that made pop culture embrace this other mythology? What we’ve made as a film not only examines that but is also an amazing adventure story. It’s been an honour to work on. As a comic book fan, Superman is like the Rosetta Stone of all superheroes. I wanted to be sure the movie treated it respectfully.”

Man of Steel is released on June 14.

What we need is not a teaser teaser, not a teaser but a trailer. Come on, only like 8 months away or something now!

From Tim Burton's un-filmed "Superman Lives" project. Script by Kevin Smith and Nicolas Cage as Superman.

It would have followed the events after his death at the hands of Doomsday, and the metallic costumes are related to the "Man of Tomorrow" and "Man of Steel" from that story arc.

As for the new movies costume, it's sort of in synch with the current comics "shorts-less" Superman costume-

Agreed, and an earlier quote said at one point he acts like an "angry god" - a definitely more serious tone.

Like I keep saying... if by "serious" they mean included the general
public's "OMFG!" moment when they realize aliens are real.

It always bugged me that Superman admitted being from an alien
world and everyone just kinda went, "Nice, our savior is here!" and
left it at that.

From what's leaked out his welcome is anything but universally accepted.
