irc client IRC Client - What do you use

So guys, I am looking to "update" my IRC Client that I run on Windows 7 x64. I have been using mIRC 6.35 for a LONG time, with NoNameScript on top of it.

NoNameScript does a lot of stuff but isn't being developed anymore but it works great with mIRC 6.35 and can be found here - http://www.nnscript.com/

However I like to keep my options open and am looking for something a little more modern and actively kept up to date with add-on scripts, also it needs to support Multi-Server and it might be OK if it is a multi chat protocol type app that supports gtalk, etc..

So my question is, what do you guys use or recommend?

I haven't actively used IRC for about 11 years now. Whenever I need to get on an IRC channel these days, I just use Opera.

You can scan through the Wikipedia list and see if you can find a different client for Windows.

I wasn't aware there was a Windows version! That's what I use in Linux but I almost never use any IRC services.

XChat-WDK is commonly recommended in Neowin IRC.

xChat is great, but since I like to have centralize clients, I use Trillian. It handles the IRC protocol pretty well, and doesn't use many resources to boot. It's not everything I'd want in an IRC client, but I can easily overlook what it doesn't do when consider just how much it does in addition to IRC.

Meh it's Shareware and hasn't been updated since 2009...

Anything else similar to Trillian out there?

XChat-WDK (-> http://www.xchat-wdk.org/ ) is frequently updated and free.

I use mIRC 7.22. I used to use NoNameScript with mIRC, but haven't used it for some years now.

Yeah, it seems to be the most recommended in Neowin IRC.

I just tried XChat-WDK and it has some problems with psyBNC for my EFNet connection, plus the interface/options don't seem to be any better then what I am already using, actually it seems to do a lot less and doesn't seem to appeal to me at all. And I really can't see using mIRC 7.x as it doesn't supply me with many new features and I lose a lot since NoNameScript doesn't work properly with it.

Any other suggestions? I'm starting to think new innovation/development for an IRC client is just gone, as I would guess IRC usage is dropping over time.

There isn't really much to do when you've already got a solid IRC client. It's not like IRC as a protocol is evolving. It is what it is and the clients can only do so much.

Development isn't completely dead though. It's just moved onto other platforms - getting an IRC client to work nicely on mobile devices is the latest challenge. And if you were on OS X, Linkinus is probably the best client available on any platform.

Hello,

Is there any reason you do not wish to update to the current version of mIRC (v7.22, I believe)?

Yea, NoNameScript isn't compatible with anything except 6.35 or less, it breaks a lot of functionality. I suppose I will just stick with what I have for now.
