[MMORTS] Novus Aeterno

Recommended Posts

Creating a thread for this game to generate support as well as introduce you guys to a new MMO RTS that's on the horizon. So far my opinion on the game is a happy blend between EVE's persistent universe and the strategy and skill required to play a game like Sins of a Solar Empire. They are starting up their beta program really soon to and the gameplay looks great. I put a bunch of the info on the game below for you to get a quick idea of what it is but there is a lot more information on their website. This game will be a free to play game which incorporates micro-transactions as well.

Also one of the main things that makes this game different than either of the above mentioned games is that it incorporates traditional ship to ship warfare mechanics such as firing arcs and the like. Positioning your ship in relation to its weaponry and the enemy is key. Also certain locations on the ship are more vulnerable to attack such as the engines. Lastly the game allows you to customize the units you put out. For example you can make them super defensive, super offensive, really fast, etc. The way you combine different upgrades and the like to your ships will create a military that functions in a more attuned fashion to your style of play.

Lastly one of the other things that is important to Novus Aeterno is the MMO portion of it. Novus incorporates an offline AI that will defend your space while you are not logged in. This way the persistent universe can be maintained for those playing and those who are not there won't lose their territory without a fight. The game is shaping up to be great fun and I really look forward to its arrival.

Description

Novus Aeterno is a full Real Time Strategy (RTS) game that takes place in a massive and seamless galaxy full of great opportunities and challenging threats. Players familiar to RTS games will be able to grasp the controls and layout to get right into the action of Novus Aeterno.

The story of Novus Aeterno begins within the aftermath of a catastrophic destruction of the main five empires that had dominated the galaxy. The Verunas, Azsendi, Acaean, Cauldron Born, and our own Human civilisations had reached a high point in domination over their portions of the galaxy. The old empires are now no more and the galaxy is without any stable authority. The player can now enter the scene and determine the course of events between the conflict of various factions and the persistent outcome of further events.

"Capital Ships will have a limited free use that, when expired, requires either in game resources or points purchased with money. We plan to rotate what ships are free and a ship can be free more than once. "

Yes, I did forget to mention the game is using the F2P model and microtransactions similar to League of Legends and other such games. I'll add that to the post.

"Capital Ships will have a limited free use that, when expired, requires either in game resources or points purchased with money. We plan to rotate what ships are free and a ship can be free more than once. "

:glare:

The short FAQ doesn't do well to explain everything, but its good your brought that up.

The player can only deploy one capital ship at a time, you can build one with game resources or a small amount of money (not sure how much at this point). About everyw eek we rotate which one any player can build every week but if you want to build a capital ship "B" whenenver you want you can pay to permanently unlock it.

If you do build a capital ship and it gets locked again after a week you still keep it so long as it is not destroyed. You can store it in your ship yard and build the new unlocked one; you only have one command crew so you can only deploy one at a time. But you can stockpile capital ships so even if they are locked to you if you have some in storage you can deploy them whenenver.

We are avoiding any "pay-to-win" situations to keep the game balanced for players who don't want to pay micro transactions.

Players who do pay get variety (more access to capital ships and cool additional models) along with karma for supporting our diet of rice (and for one programmer ketchup and crackers). =P

Wow. Why have I not seen or heard about this game until now? I'm always on the look out for games like this. Thanks for creating this thread, Emn1ty. (Y)

I really like the concept of combining RTS mechanics with a persistent MMO universe. Also, the concept art looks great. I feel the artists have done a great job with the ship designs. They've also done a great job with capturing a futuristic feel, similar to EVE Online's art direction. I hope they invite a lot of people to participate in any beta tests they have. I'd love to get a chance to test it myself.

They have started a beta tester selection process called the Infiltrator Program. Visit the site and check it out!

Novus Aeterno - An Ambitious MMORTS Rising

Nieuwoudt said that since there?s never a way to perfectly balance a game, they?ve also implemented something they?re calling D.I.M.E, a ?dynamic balance? system with the acronym standing for Diplomacy, Information, Military, Economy, meaning each of these are important to success in some way. It doesn?t mean that you have to be active in all things though. If you?re playing a more peaceful resource gatherer kind of player, you can ally yourself with someone that is focused more on military power to both help keep you safer and to forge a victory. Someone who has a strong army might not have the time or desire to focus on diplomacy, so there are ways, as this is an MMO after all, to become interdependent if the player desires.

As an MMORTS, the game will feature a seamless and persistent galaxy. Exploration won?t be limited to just a few planets. Here too is a demonstration of just how important player choice and a custom experience are. There are millions of planets and stars out there to be crossed and discovered in the galaxies, with a ton of exploration potential. Seriously, if you?re an explorer and a fan of 4X games, this is for you.

I still will not play a game that you have to continually pay to keep playing to reap the benefits of the game. The same way I refuse to ever purchase a game and THEN have to pay to use online features. I'll take offline or lan play any day.

It will not be subscription based, it will be run almost identical to that of League of Legends.

Novus Aeterno will be a one time fee, no subscriptions, free mandatory expansion packs.

We will sell skins but never wins. (no gameplay modifiers via paying real money)

The infiltrator program should start in a few weeks. I really want to see this game in action myself, particularly for the stuff outside of combat.
