Note that Safari 5.2 is still not using the updated "grabby hand" cursor, although all the other ones are being used properly. It's been a bug in Lion for as long as I can remember, no idea if it will be fixed or not.

It still not snot support the rendering of the hight-DPI mouse cursor on it's video captures.

As long as I can remember people have been searching for the OS X cursor files, but no luck so far. There are some in the WebKit framework, but those aren't the ones used by OS X itself. Best bet is they're hardcoded somewhere.

I maxed out the cursor size on a friend's MacBook Air. Watching him freak out for about 30 minutes was extremely entertaining. I'm evil I know? :laugh:

Probably in the ArtFile.bin and SArtFile.bin I'm not sure of the file path tho, Google will have plenty of results tho ^_^

The only way to change the mouse cursor was to use a haxie called MightyMouse (or something). But it just tricked the OS in using something different, I didn't actually touched the cursor files.

So far nobody has been able to find the actual files and replace them.

yeah and MM doesn't work with Leopard and beyond

On OS X Leopard and OS X Snow Leopard you could fool the latest MightyMouse beta to work by editing some .plist file. Not sure about OS X Lion and beyond. Last time I touched those "Application Enhancers" was in 2004 when I just had my eMac running OS X Panther, but never done so again afterwards. Haxies can be a recipe for disaster.

in Mac OS X Lion 10.7 to 10.7.3 here is where the 'legendary' Mac OS X Cursor files themselves are located -> System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/HiServices.framework/Versions/A/Resources/cursors

Depending on which version of Lion you are running, there will be from 36 to 37 folders within the 'cursor' folder. Within each of these folders is a .png as well as a .PDF file which are images of the various cursors used throughout Mac OS X. They are very easily 'edited' in Photoshop. Log out & back in to enable the changes you've made. Unfortunately, much to my deep frustration and regret, as of Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 the cursor folder named 'arrow 'is no longer used by the system. Meaning the main 'everyday' arrow cursor is no longer available to be 'tweaked' in this manner. SO if you can, stick with Lion 10.7.2 if you want to be able to have a custom arrow cursor. If anyone discovers where this arrow cursor is hidden away, renamed or encoded or otherwise in 10.7.3 or higher please let me know ASAP. I hope this information is useful to those wishing to customize their cursors in Mac OS X Lion.

I don?t think so. They would have been happy quadrupling the resolution if it were the case, not working with vectors, as they have failed several times at that.

Rumored hi-res displays was probably taken into account when making hi-res cursors, but I don't think it was the only reason. I believe Mac OS X, in general, has been moving gradually towards resolution independence since Tiger.
