I must be out of sync with this. I have a pair of old school converse high-tops. Bought in the early 80s and my Tony Lama boots, which were purchased also in the 80s and a pair of Diamond-back rattlesnake boots for going out.

I'll usually buy good shoes when they look beautiful or if I need to replace some pair that gets old...

There is no fixed "correct" number, so null vote for me! (Y) :p

I was about to point this out--there is no "correct" number; needs, preferences and styles differ for everyone.

Not just that, the poll DOES support individualism, as it is asking basically what's YOUR correct number. (At least I'll give the poll this concept. It might not be explicitly worded like that)

However, my gripe is that even to ME there is no fix number.
It's just that when I see a good pair of shoes, I'll buy it.

I recently discovered that I want to buy more shoes with pink details/lines/pattern, so that's what I'll do in the future, I still have good black-only shoes though, won't be thrown away for some time and then there are others again, etc...

Answer: 4-9 of various types
  • Casual "rugged" shoes (good for winter)
  • Casual trainer shoes (good for summer)
  • Trainers
  • Work Boots (steel toe capped)
  • Wellingtons
  • Smart Shoes (for interviews and such)
  • Smart Black Shoes (for weddings/funerals)
  • Spare pair of casual trainer shoes (bought as they were in the sale!)
This is all I have I think.

1 pair for my suit.

Changed my vote from 2-3 to 4-9 because for suits I DO have summer and winter ones.. then there's also winter boots, sportsware and the old pairs that haven't been thrown out.

:)

2x everyday/tennis shoes
1x black leather dress shoes for suit
1x black leather dress shoes for work (I wear a suit)
1x brown leather dressy casual
1x running

Damn... Never thought I'd own more than 2 pair...
