What price would this cost me?

Recommended Posts

Was wondering if I could get a possible price for this. I'd personally would rather buy a prebuilt computer instead of buying the parts and trying to assemble myself (even with help). If I do assemble, EVERY part should come from Newegg or Tiger (or you all can suggest other good sites)

Hardware

- USB 2.0 speeds that are minimum of 30 MB a second

- USB 3.0 speeds that are at lest 300+ MB/s

- Windows Experience Index of at lest 5.0 (minimum)*

- Firewire (and or eSata port) --- because I have a external hardrive that has both along with USB

- At lest a solid terabyte

- Has either a VGA or DVI port (current monitor I have has both)

- Multicard reader (although I mainly need SD and Memory Pro Stick Duo)

- Able to use a PS3 controller AND A XBOX 360 controller (and it if possible all of Wii's main controllers)

- I would like a quad core if possible.

Software

- Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit)

- May run Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit and or XP as well as Ult 7 64 bit.

- May run folding@home (although I use my PS3 for that when I'm not using it)

- Able to run most games from DOS era on, probably high settings

- Will use steam

-- Elder Scrolls

-- Portal 1 & 2

-- Batman Arkham (Asylum/City)

-- Sonic Generations

-- Quake

-- Wolfenstein (3D)

-- Commander keen

and others

- Will use CD/DVD's of the games I have:

-- Warcraft 2 - Tides of Darkness & Beyond the Dark Portal

-- Warcraft 3 - Reign of Chaos & Frozen Throne

-- Diablo 1 - 3 (when it comes out)

-- The Sims 1 - And all expansions

-- The Sims 2 (probably)

-- Simcity 4000 & Rushhour

- May use emulation (to run up to the PS2/Wii)

What I would like (MISC)

- It able to fit a somewhat small desk (although I guess I could put it under) [

- If I DO put this under and I get a new monitor I guess I could have both in use either by use of new computer or one for my laptop

What I don't need

- Speakers (already have two)

- A monitor (@ this time)

- Dual GPU's

- NOT OVERCLOCKED, NOR NEEDING A COOLING SYSTEM OTHER THAN A FEW FANS

- Alienware . . . . . .

* - My current (slimline)'s lowest is 2.6 (graphics), than game graphics (3.0), processor/RAM are 4.7 & primary hardisk is 5.6 . . . My current computer can play Warcrafts, SimCity & TS1.

That's all I can think of the moment. Max budget, If possible within 1200 - 1500

You're not asking for much... I'd say figure $600.

But with your budget, you should get the fastest single GPU money can buy - which is the Radeon HD7970 at this moment. You should get a $200 Intel CPU. And you shoud get a decent air cooler, figure $30 because the default ones are borderline unstable under heavy use for a few people. Overall, I think you can keep it under $1K if you choose a Radeon 7950, even less if you go for a GTX 570... so your choice of GPU determines how under-budget you end up. Any of them should be good enough.

Bottom line, it's all under your budget easily.

A customary question is what resolution you want to game at, but it does not look like you're on a 30" monitor so it does not really matter.

The current monitor is about a 22 inch. If I put the system on the ground (bambo floor) that should free up space on the desktop for a bigger monitor. I guess I'd eventually like HD monitor -- so if PC had VG, DVI & HDMI ports that'd be good.

your budget is very nice for this kind of PC, you should be fine if you go with a mainstream brand like Dell, HP, Gateway, ASUS, or Acer. I'm assuming you still want a pre-built PC. mind you the specs will be much lower than what you can get for that kind of money (or any money) if you assemble it yourself. calling it a build these days is somewhat of an exaggaration

I'm more used to prebuilt, except with what I want I doubt a prebuilt could do it. Someone I know's brother built the computer the friend uses, I'll probably get their help assembling it.

Your comment about USB3 being at least 300MB/sec -- You need to realize that a connection is only as fast as the slowest part - so unless you are connecting an external SSD - you will never see 300MB/sec - if you connect a regular HDD - you will probably see about 80% of the drive's potential.

As far as 30MB/sec minimum for USB2 - 33MB/sec is the best. The reason I am saying this is I dont want you to be upset when you dont get the crazy speeds they tout in their specs - You need to realize the difference between theoretical speeds and reality.

Why are you installing 7 Ultimate ? you plan on switching languages on the fly ? :shifty:

Oh, I guess you have one of those promo disks, right ?

One - for the languages, two if something I want to play (or install) won't install on Windows 7 64 bit (for what ever reason) I want to be able to use XP. Though I guess I could install 64 bit and 32 bit Windows 7,

For that, Windows 7 Pro support XP Mode, basically windows XP inside of your Windows 7, I've had no issues with it whatsoever, graphics wise, or otherwise.

If I was to run a virtual XP, I'd need plenty of RAM and I think a fast CPU . . . . Could I use about a ~200 GB Solid State drive as the main drive © and use a mechincal drive (probably the terabyte+) as a secondary drive to have some steam games and or the CD's/DVD's I wanted . . . .?

Yes thats what I currently do. WIndows 8 CP is installed on my 120GB SSD and my games/apps/storage.etc is stored on a separate 160GB hdd.

If I use SLI or a dual GPU, don't I have to have basically the same (or similar) GPU card 'twice'? 7970 are like $500 I think how much power do they take? I should I add I really don't think I should use more than like 300 - 500 watts of power to run the entire system. This slimline probably takes about the same as a slim PS3.

For SLI or Crossfire you have to have the same card. You will need more than 300-500w to run these type of systems. Don't forget a PS3 is very different to a PC with a lot better processing power/specs. If you are looking for slimline the lowest you could go is Micro-ATX like my current build. This is around half the size of a normal full size PC Case. Just one card uses around 300w of Power. So for three cards thats like 900w, for triple crossfire you would need a 1000w PSU.

The 7970 on full usage requires 390w. However, I don't think more than 1 7970 would be needed at the moment. The 7970 is currently the fastest graphics card out there and will basically take anything you throw at it...

Those are both overrpiced for what you get...A card reader for $52? 650 W PSU for $140?

Yes, I was thinking that too, these obviously need some more refinement. Those were newegg's prices. Also, why are computer parts so much more expensive compared to the UK?
