Machine Check Exception - CP Install

Recommended Posts

So I'm trying to install Windows 8 CP on my HP Envy Laptop. I have the original Beats edition 17" Envy, so its about 2 years old. Windows 7 works fine on it and I recently reformatted and reinstalled 7 with no problems. The only issue I even encountered was if 7 tried to install the ATI driver from windows update before I installed it from HP, the computer would blue screen. But never encountered an issue like this during initial install.

However, whenever I try and install the 8 CP (or even the DP), its gets all the way to "Configuring Devices" and around 89% or so I get a blue screen with "Machine Check Exception". It counts down to 1, but doesn't reboot. If I hard power down and restart, Windows says the install cannot proceed and must be restarted.

This happens if I try to install from flash drive as a clean install, or even as an upgrade from within Windows 7.

Anyone have any ideas? This laptop has really great specs (Core i7, 8gb ram, etc) and I think Windows 8 would run great on it, but I have yet to experience it since neither the DP or CP will install.
