Things that should be improved in Windows 8 CP

Recommended Posts

Please use this thread to post things that should be improved in Windows 8 Consumer Preview.

If you're thinking to write something like "remove metro" this thread is not for you.

File manager in metro should allow PREVIEW and SEARCH of files.

Example:

In the Mail metro app I want to attach a file to an email. When browsing the files, I have to navigate from folder to folder, and I can sort by name or date and that's all. I can't search for a specific file whereever is located as in the Explorer search box. Neither can preview the file (picture in real size or word document for example) before attaching it to the email.

I think this is very unuseful and annoying. It should be improved.

Closing the desktop. Odd result.

Scenario:

1) Two monitors on dektop PC.

2) No metro apps open

3) On desktop, in main monitor drag the desktop from the top border to the bottom of the screen as to close the application.

Result: second monitor will continue to show desktop. Main monitor will show an EMPTY unuseful screen with same color as the Start screen's background.

I think three possible correct scenarios under this situation:

a) On main monitor show Start screen and on second monitor continue showing the desktop.

b) Close the desktop on both monitors and show Start screen on main monitor.

c) Close the desktop on both monitors and show Start screen spanned in both monitors.

Do you then post these info to microsoft for review? :woot:

Is there any feedback tool in W8 cp ? I can't find any except inside some applications, but that feedback are specific for those apps.

Thanks... Already post it there, but I thought there was a more direct way to give feedback.

Welcome mate, if you want MS to hear you, maybe just maybe they look at comments of their blog...so by posting our wishes as comments in http://blogs.msdn.com/b/b8/ we may catch some MS eyes :)

When using 2 monitors, and the main monitor is the one on the left, it's not easy to go with the mouse pointer to the corners on the right to make the charm appear because the pointer will continue moving to the second monitor.

While in IE10, right clicking to bring up the charms, then double clicking on the black area on the top (where you could normally double click for a new tab in a normal browser) does nothing. I want the double-click to create a new tab ability.

Also, "clean up tabs" should read "close background tabs". I lost a few tabs I needed, trying to figure out what that option did.

One thing I feel is a bit cack handed is the "All Apps" button location. Instead of having to rigth click and press the button, why not have an Apps button next to Start. It saves a click, easier to find just like it is on Windows Phone.

Otherwise I'm impressed so far by the OS, the apps are what need more work at the moment.

I do like the "Metrobar" that you get for open programs, pretty much works like the task bar atm and as mouse users its EASIER to close programs then on a tablet. Right click, close, job done. No need to swipe and pull down.
