No audio in osx lion

Recommended Posts

Yesterday i installed lion ( fresh install ) on my hackintosh, used multi beast to install other drivers, everything worked after reboot, but sound is not working, weird thing is that OS is detecting my sound card ( ALC889 ) but when i plugin my headphone, sound isn't coming, which is odd because it worked perfectly in snow leopard. i have tried all jacks and sound is still not working, any ideas?

Hold ALT and click the Volume Control icon in the menu. Make sure the Output device is set to what it should be.

I hold ALT and clicked on sound icon, it just allowed me to move the sound icon on menu bar, b/w do you mean this setting?

okay, i got your options by holding "windows" key and clicking, but it is showing same exact options from sound settings, i have tried both " line out " and " digital out " options, none of them worked. :/

So just you know, I don't support Hackintosh in any way but what motherboard do you have?

It's possible that the driver in question has slightly changed and you may need to grab an alternative one from kexts.

Try Tonymac - a dedicated site for hackintosh's - You will get help there im sure!

With my upgrade from SL to Lion I had to downgrade the Sound drivers which is explained on Tonymac.

i made a thread there yesterday, no one replied. I tried HDA rollback ( which basically use SL drivers ), but it didnt work, my card is recognized, only problem is no sound is coming out of my headphone.

I get kernel panic whenever i install voodoo hda, well i found on tonymac that this problem only occurs with my mobo, people with same mobo as mine are having audio problem, none of drivers or kext are working for them.

You could always buy a cheapo external USB soundcard, like some older Terratec or newer X-Fi, no need to toy around with drivers.

Thats what i was thinking to buy too, but i heard the cheap ones have bad sound quality.

I have a rather old Terratec Aureon 5.1 USB MK II that works right out of the box, has optical output etc. the works and has good audio quality - I use it on my Mac Pro as an external card since I occasionally need more outputs for music and otherwise.

You can prolly find one or similar (Terratec ones are good, Creative ones too) for pennies nowadays from eBay or similar.
