Unimpressed, Razer

Recommended Posts

So today whilst gaming my Razer DeathAdder has suffered a blow to its mouse wheel. Now I can only middle click, which feels really wierd as the wheel is at an odd angle.

The main reason that I'm unimpressed here is that this is exactly what happened to my Copperhead I had ages ago. Shame really as super glue didn't help in the end so I doubt it'll help too much with the DeathAdder.

Not heard great things about Razer support but I will attempt to email them and see if they're willing to remedy my mouse.

razer hardware isnt as durable as Logitech. But how long have you been using it?

:s how do u use the scrollwheel?

i have a lachesis.. Almost a year now. Works just like new. Just the skid pads are like 20% worn off. as i use a hard mat.

Got it around 7 months ago of eBay.

I was playing wc3: tft and use the middle mouse button to move the screen. And middle clicking links in firefox.

The Copperhead was mainly used for Counter-Strike: Source however I didn't use the middle button much.

The underside is massively scratched as the pads hardly offer any clearance. I've always thought the bigger pads that steelseries offer seem more sensible as it'll distribute the pressure more evenly.

It's entirely down to their marketing and product design. I mean, the DeathAdder as an LED that undulates between off and on. And it illuminates Razer's bitching logo.

Tbh I reckon I'll get Logitech's G400 as it's about ?30 on Amazon and has everything I need. Really not after super keen lasers and ARM processors inside the mouse. I just want a mouse that's better than your average mouse from Microsoft.

I've written off Razer products for good.....I had a Lycosa keyboard, Imperator mouse and Carcharias headphones, had issues with every single one of them and had to replace them in no more than a year. Currently happen with my Deck keyboard, logitech mouse and corsair headphones though, hopefully they last much longer.

I have a Razer Mamba, the most expensive mouse they make and it is falling apart. I've only had it a little over a year and it started going down hill a few months ago.

1. The scrollwheel began squeaking

2. The rubber grommets on both sides of the mouse came unstuck and fell off (rubbish glue)

3. the plastic on the sides of the scrool wheel has come unstuck and warped (cheap plastic)

4. The battery on it barely lasts 2-3 hours so I leave it plugged in over USB all the time now.

Overall I'm really unimpressed with them. I had the diamondback then the Lachesis and finally the Mamba. In my opinion the Diamondback was really well made it lasted me several years and I only replaced it because the sensor began to malfunction. The Lachesis felt like holding a tank in my hand the back of it didn't come down nicely and it gave me wrist ache so I upgraded to the Razer Mamba which I really did think was a fantastic mouse up until about 6 months ago when the whole thing started to fall apart and its battery went to ****. For a ?100 mouse I expected it to last longer than a year.

Next time I buy a mouse I'm going to stick to Logitech. Their products seem to last forever.

Their products are definately priced such that you'd expect decent logevity. Although my Copperhead did last for quite a few years before the wheel broke. Should've kept it as eveything else worked fine and I've seen broken Copperheads on ebay.

does a review of several mice, including the deathadder and g400. I've experienced the same issues he has with the DeathAdder. Grip issues, hand positioning, phantom wheel jumps, tracking issues.

Those are all the same problems I had with my mamba when I ordered it. Only mine lasted less than 3 months (it was very first generation, pre ordered). And they wanted me to pay to get it replaced/fixed. I felt the same exact way about the lechesis, too.

Nearly a year of use, no problems with it.

Count yourself lucky, then.

Welcome to the club, that's why I don't buy Razer **** anymore. Way too overpriced for how fragile they are.

I'm now using the most basic Microsoft mouse I could find and have been using it since my Razer one decided to stop working properly, and oh my god - it's working like a charm ! A charm without any extra functionality, but it's working !

Screw Razer :/

I probably did push too hard on my middle click+hold, applying lots of pressure but hey they should test this and realise that gamers are gonna do that. Their products are meant to be for gamers so it is their design that should accomate us not the other way round.

Also:

Thanks, we have received your inquiry to Razer Support.

Generally all inquiries are answered within 24 hours. Occasionally, due to some inquires taking more research than others and also due to excessive call demand, a reply may take longer than 24 hours. Please accept our apologies in advance for any reply that exceeds this time frame, but be assured we are working hard to get back to you as quickly as possible. If you do not hear back from us in 3 days please feel free to contact us for an update to your case. Thanks for your understanding.

I've sent them two emails, no response apart from the auto-response as above.

Anyone got a UK or EU specific email? I'm having a hard time navigating their awful website.

Deffo warming to the idea of a G400 now.

Anyone want my DeathAdder?

I love Razer's mice, but other Razer products leave something to be desired. When the original BlackWidow keyboards came out both the standard and Ultimate had wiring issues. If you held shift and typed certain things quickly the letters would come out in the wrong order. Which was really irritating because my company's name was one of the things that would come out wrong ... Doesn't look very professional when you spell that wrong eh? I emailed Razer about it and first they told me that I was imagining it, so I sent them video proof and even more detailed instructions on how to reproduce the issue. Eventually they emailed me back with something along the lines of "Oh wow you're right, it's a wiring issue and we'll be sure to fix it with newer models." - I inquired about getting some sort of refund or an exchange for a different keyboard since I bought mine directly from them. They said they couldn't do that but offered to send me something for my trouble and for taking the time to point out the issue to them. A few weeks later I received an envelope containing a lanyard, some decals, some temporary tattoos, and a few other small cheap things that had the Razer logo on them. As if to say "Hey we sold you a defective product for way too much money, now be a good lad and go advertise for us by putting these decals and stickers and such on things!"

Couldn't be happier with my DeathAdder though. For keyboards, even though they're not much to look at, I'll be going with either Das or SteelSeries from now on.

I had the Razer Mamba 2012..... Randomly, the freakin' thing just stopped responding. If I just left the mouse alone and tried it again 20 secs later, it just magically worked.

That, with the low charge capacity... yeah, I'm sorry, I didnt like it.

But on the good side, my Megalodons are still working nicely. And I'm not going nice with them either!

I see a lot of this stuff about Razer products, I don't know why people still buy them. Incredibly cheap construction with a high rate of premature failure. For mice buy Logitech, for keyboards there are WASD, Cherry, iRocks...anything mechanical basically that isn't the Black Widow.

My middle mouse button is also starting to break, it just randomly works when it wants, it's gotten so bad I've now had to bind the middle mouse to another button.

I had a Razer Diamondback for years and it worked flawlessly after 5 years the only reason I replaced it was I wanted a bigger mouse, so I then bought a Razer Lachesis mouse and a Lycosa keyboard both have problems, this will be the last time I buy Razer.

The only product I ever bought from Razer was a headset and I was quiet unimpressed at it compared to what SteelSeries offers being a much smaller company in the US. Friends all get excited for Razer gear but all the stories I see are about cheap Razer product breaking easily or quickly.

Dibs.

Where do you live and you'll have to paypal me the cost for shipping (From UK). And wait for me to get a G400 when I can be bothered.

Well isn't that cute of them.

Gaming headphones is yet another market where the consumer is roped in with spin. Just get a pair of studio headphones or something. They're much more comfortable, cost effective and have better sound quality/EQ response. I had some 5.1 speed link headphones and I learnt that 5.1 headphones are total nonsense.

I was just about to say that. It also surprises me how many people buy replacement stuff from Razer, expecting it to be better than their original. Don't people read reviews? If I was looking at spending ?115 on a wireless mouse I'd want to see if it was any good or not.
