Non IE-based browser?

Recommended Posts

I just got my first WP7 phone, and so far I'm liking the OS better than Android. However, I'm having some compatibility issues with a few of the mobile sites I use, and one site (DeviantArt) is rendering so poorly that I can barely use it. These sites work fine on the stock browsers in Android, Blackberry, and iOS, but they aren't doing to well in IE Mobile.

I've tried hunting for a few different browsers, but all the ones I'm finding still use the IE engine, but have additional features. I was wondering if there are any browsers available for WP7 that do not use IE's rendering engine? Or if there's anything I can do to make sites more compatible?

All the browsers use the IE engine as far as I'm aware - they're basically all just shells around it.

As far as deviantart mobile goes, it seems to be rendering perfectly fine for me. Your phone is running Windows Phone 7.5? (It should tell you in Settings -> About -> phone information -> software)

This is one thing that seems to be holding the OS back for me. Why are they not allowing Firefox and Opera to put their own browsers on it? Could be a security thing but surely just allow those two browsers that have a good reputation.

No native development, nearly no security risks, simply. A lot of the biggest hole in security right now seem to come from web browsers being targeted and abused. Not that there's anything wrong with IE 9 mobile, the responsiveness of it pretty much puts everything else to shame.

What problems are you having? The only thing I find annoying is the lack of a proper ad blocker but other than that I can't say that I've noticed any compatibility issues.
