Thief hijacks cop car, steals back own vehicle

When police in western Sweden recently apprehended two suspected diesel thieves they were not prepared to find themselves chasing their own car and seizing the same vehicle twice.

Officers arrested two men during late Sunday night, suspected of stealing fuel in a specially equipped car, according to local paper Bohusl?ningen.

While one of the men was being frisked, the police had placed the other suspect in the squad car, which had the motor running and lights flashing. Seeing his chance, the man jumped into the driver?s seat and made a break for it.

One officer sustained minor injuries when trying to prevent the man?s escape in the hijacked police vehicle, but the thief nevertheless managed to flee the scene in the squad car with the warning lights flashing.

The remaining suspect was then taken to police headquarters in Uddevalla along with the car, which had a specially built tank to hold stolen diesel fuel, according to the paper.

Meanwhile the police car thief had travelled north, with police in hot pursuit, tracking the car via GPS.

Once police found the car however, the thief had scarpered and was already on the way to Uddevalla in a different vehicle.

Well there, the car thief managed to force entry to the police impound lot, where officers had parked the seized vehicle. He started the car, forced his way out through the gate and headed north again.

However, police eventually caught up with him and apprehended him at his mother?s house.

According to the paper, the man resisted arrest and got quite violent.

The man?s mother offered to help calm her son down, but said that the situation turned violent quickly.

?The arrest was carried out as if he had murdered someone,? said the mother to Bohusl?ningen.

An internal police investigation is being carried out in regards to the arrest. The two diesel thieves are now under suspicion for a series of crimes, according to the paper.

Yeah, but he was from USA, so it goes without saying. But I see what you're saying.

I doubt very few countries used caged police cars, in the UK if they know they'll have problems (i.e. several drunks) they'll call in a van instead.
