Not sure on battery drain, but I have been using Winamp for a while. Has play lists and everything. As far as VLC, there is a beta out for it now. Doesnt work real well on my GNEX tho. Video distortions and just doesnt play right.

Firefox requires Android 2.1 so you should be fine. Dolphin is another good browser but I use FF since that is what I use on my desktop and I can sync up my bookmarks.

Zune HD is the most battery efficient music player. I was able to play mp3s 24/7 for 1 week before the battery died.

Lol, you didn't read the original post, did you?

My vote is for Winamp.

Ueah I meant a droid app.. MixZing drains it very fast cuz the ads. Im going to run winamp and realplayer thru one charge and use the net one at a time. First rp than wa. Thing is free winamp still has ads and rp free has none and non invasive permissions as well.

I use Android Music, is the Google Android one from 2.3 I think, free in market and lightweight. Uses 86mA with screen off according to battery monitor. Tbh it's not the player so much as the fact you're creating sound through the earpieces.

Also, i use Dolphin mini, though opera next seems lighter and faster, pref dolphin though. Again, it's the screen more than anything...open any browser and turn the screen off, nothing drains they battery.

My experience of VLC for ipod (OK so it's not the same kettle of fish, so to speak) is that it eats the battery like there's no tomorrow.

While I love my Zune HD, I have to call absolute bull****. There is no way the Zune HD can go for 168 hours straight playing MP3's. There isn't any PMP that can own up to that claim, nor do they try. Cowon's typically have excellent battery life, and excellent sound quality.

I'd stick with the stock music player. Turn off any radios (WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth) that you're not using at the time.
