One iPhoto library to rule them all?

I have two macs (desktop and laptop) and when at home I load my photos on to the desktop but when I travel i load photos on to the laptop; I have ended up with two libraries of photos, is there a way to merger them easily? Ideally I would like my desktop to be the primary location for all the photos to sync too but am not sure if there is software out there that currently supports this.

Any ideas?

Is this not something that iCloud or whatever they call it is made for? Seems like a ridiculous thing to Apple to allow to happen without a solution to merge/sync them.
