The mouse studies showing a connection between gut microbe balance and a transmissible obesity started coming in about 6 years ago and recent studies (Yale - Feb 1, Nature) are still saying the same thing, adding a connection to NAFLD. Human studies are planned since 30 million Americans have NAFLD..

Studies also show a link between alcoholism and genetics, but in the end, all that means is that you must be more careful. With diabetes, it is possible to get it outside of your control, but then again, You can also get lung cancer and never smoke or be exposed to second hand smoke. I know you have Diabetes, I believe you said type II. Are you suggesting by your comment that you had no responsibility or control in how you got it? I see patients daily who claim they did everything right and got type 2 diabetes. They claim they follow the plan given by the dietitian and yet when we take out their trash we find TONS of candy, sugar, and fattening snack wrappers in their trash. We cannot provide them these things, but they prey on the volunteers, and housecleaning who are not familiar with their condition or the nutritionists orders and get it anyway and they constantly claim it isn't theirs. Then you'll catch them eating it or something. They claim they're in physical therapy working out too and they when you review the charts, they haven't been participating properly in PT. Now I see people with type 2 diabetes DAILY with denial of their responsibility when they go into a hyperglycemia state and how they got to their in the first place. So my question to you is, do you claim to lack responsibility for your condition? I know for example if I get lung cancer where I got it from and wont deny it if/when it happens.

Now that you're done with your highly presumptive rant, go look up LADA - latent onset autoimmune diabetes in adults, AKA type 1.5. I was originally misdiagnosed with type 2, and still use the term in casual conversationn, but later it was found to be LADA. Diabetes is not the simple type 1/type 2 but a continuum.

I'm not quite sure you understand what that word means. A projection is when you attribute a negative aspect you yourself have unto other people. It is however not a projection to say someone (who is not you) is doing the same thing as another group. That is grouping and categorizing. I am not diabetic and as for my bad habits, I smoke, I will probably get COPD and or lung cancer. If this happens, if I cant pay for it with my own money I will survive as long as I can without government assistance then off myself as I see no reason to let them pay for my bad habit. I go to great pains to recognize what my health habits will do to me and stay out of active denial. Now where were you going with that?

That didn't apply in my case because I was active as hell, eating right and not obese** when T2 was diagnosed, then later they figured out it was LADA by the antibody profile.

** according to my endocrinologist, and BMI doesn't mean squat because of my heavy musculature.

So you claim you had nothing to do at all with your development of diabetes? And everyone's innocent in jail and every one of the over 150 diabetics I have worked with over the last three years didnt either. Even the ones who where obese upon admission would claim they where not obese and that they where "naturally big" or "big boned". I don't know your history, their is a very small chance your telling the truth, but it sounds like the same old reflection I have seen out of practically every diabetic I have worked with.

And that is a non-zero quantity, one which you have rammed your head into. You're starting to sound like the physicians who in days past said asthma was "all in there heads" and denied that many ulcers were caused by H. pylori. Not all diabetics follow the cookie cutter rules. Get used to it.

I believe what I said about you is well grounded. But let me ask you this, as someone who also claims to have been a "medical" professional" whatever that means, do you at least admit that denial of condition and causes of said condition is rampant in the diabetic community? Unlike those docters who had the causes of asthma all wrong and science disproved them, science on the causes of diabetes are overwhelmingly on my side just like lung cancer linked to ciggerettes.

ABSOLUTELY!! It's a huge problem, and it causes trouble for those of us that don't fit into that category (witness this thread.) OTOH, I had access to a great team of specialists and took my condition by the neck - dropping my a1c to 5.6 in 3 months and staying there.
