Hey

I want to setup using Dynamic DNS my ip to a FQDM with something free. I think DynDNS gave this service for free back in the day but now is just a trial.

I have a DD-WRT router if it helps it setup any better.

To those that posted (and will post more) is there any reason I should use that one instead of another? Im also located in West Europe if it makes differences for speed

Static IP, No-IP and others (unfortunately not many routers have native clients) or I believe that you can sign up for trial using credit card, and then you can choose to change Trial to Free.

google's public DNS ? 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4
Or openDNS ?

No, he's talking about updating a DNS server to point at a dynamic IP address.

Useful for making a domain name for home connections

I'm still using DynDNS because I'm OLD Works great, but that's not much help for you :\

no-ip has a free pkg but you have to "check in" every 30 days via email

Well I think DynDNS has just a free trial for 14 days. I perfer something free "premanent"

No, Im talking about having a DNS updated my FQDN with my dynamic IP.

I think they send you an email every 30 days, and you have to simply click on a link to verify you are still actively using their free stuff.

I still have an active .ath.cx ~ have since 2004 (not that this helps you). DYNDNS (or No-IP) is definately going to be your best bet here.

That's how mine works, 30 days and I get an email, except I installed the "DynUpdater" client on my server, so it just does it for me >.<

I have no idea if it's still available. Not going to let mine lapse in that case

The router dyn DNS function only refreshes the ip in the dns. You will still have to click the link in the mailer login to the website to verify you're still active.
