Is my Antec PSU dead?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, earlier i was cleaning my graphics card and putting it back in then I accidently dropped a screw into my Antec 650 watt Power Supply Unit, then I thought it would be a clever idea to use my magnetic screwdriver and put it in to get the screw back, however stupidly I had forgot I had left the main power cable plugged into the PSU and when i stuck my screwdriver in, I got a spark and my screwdriver got burnt as well, now my computer isn't booting up when I press the power button, Is my PSU dead? Could it be fixed if it is?

Thank You :)

Not necesserially, all PSUs are required (AFAIK) to have an internal fuse in them so chances are you've blown that, it might be a simple pull-up one or it might be soldered to the board. If you were lucky then that's all you've blown, if you're unlucky then you've made the PSU dead.

your lucky ur not dead!!!

All modern power distribution boxes (in houses and offices in the UK anyway) have RCDs built into them, if they detect human contact it will shut off all the power at the box and the person that made it trip won't recieve quite as nearly a bad shock as if it didn't trip!
