Pffft downtown Detroit is awesome (I work there). Once you get away from downtown it can get shady but I've never had any issues. Plus they have stuff like urban exploring (photographing/checking out abandoned buildings), a friend and I went to some areas to photograph graffiti, stuff like that. It's a turdle!

My house after dark when you're uninvited.

After that, probably DocM's house after dark when you're invited.

After that, probably Kansas City, MO. I've never lived there, but it's right on the border, and it's the one place where I actually watched something from COPS (it wasn't the tv show, but like it) play out in real life. I was driving on the beltway around town after dark and I saw a car on the other side of the road come to a sliding stop and some guy fell out jumped up and took off running with two cop cars behind him.

Simple, Centralia Pennsylvania. When you go there you'll see these signs posted everywhere:

Eh, Downtown Detroit isn't scary at all if you've ever been there - even at night.

Like I said, downtown Detroit is fine and there's tons to do between the theaters, stadiums, and other attractions, but some of the neighborhoods outside of it can be pretty spooky - mostly because of the gangs.

Still, it's a LOT better than it was from 1967 to about 10 years ago - then it was a f'ing war zone.

That's insane, just actually being near the vicinity can be crucial?. Got to be a very creepy place indeed.

A lot of people on this thread says Detroit, MI is scariest, but I hope that is actually from experience, not some "I heard from news/friends" type of response. Detroit has much culture, and being a minority (of Asian origin), I find Detroit a hell lot safer than other parts of Michigan. Being non-white, I wouldn't even venture to northern Michigan. Even parts of west Michigan is not all that friendly. About six or seven years ago, I was briefly at the Greyhound station in Jackson, MI, and the elder white people stared at me like "why the f are you here?" Truth to be told, I wish these racist elder whites head to grave sooner than later.
