Agreed. Too many colors and gradients with little overall concept.

Besides, it's too early to be theming win8 when it there so many bugs left to fix.

Uh no. The point of releasing Alpha, Beta, CPs is for testing and development. Theming SHOULD be a part of that - so the theming community can hit the ground running.

Not so much since 7, although I do prefer themes like Soft7 and other pure glass themes for it, but previous OSs were pretty ugly (No pun intended)

People have different tastes. I wouldn't mind Windows 8 desktop looking a bit like the Office 15 Preview.

And for that reason some people want even less eye candy than the OS comes with by default.

Also, has anyone realized that the desktop theme packs for Windows 7 (absolutely all of them) still work?

My typical theme that I use in the Consumer Preview is the same one I used with the Developer Preview (and 7 before that) - NASA SpaceScapes.
