Emily_June
I'm an extremely light sleeper. This is how my typical short nights looks (this was last night): If I can stay in bed longer, I generally wake up between 15-20 times, rarely totalling more than 5 hours of sleep. I wake up to the slightest noises or changes (i.e. someone walking into the room, etc..) I probably spend less than 1/4 of my time in bed actually sleeping. What about you? What does it take to wake you up?

Salutary7
Definitely a heavy sleeper. I need an extra loud, prolonged alarm, or just someone to shake me in the morning.
Emily_June
Definitely a heavy sleeper. I need an extra loud, prolonged alarm, or just someone to shake me in the morning. I can't imagine what that's like. I haven't actually used an alarm since middle school. If I set one (very rarely), I always wake up at least 15 minutes before it goes off, because I'm terrified of being startled awake by it. I don't think I've been woken by one since I was 11, and can't think of a single time I've woken up late/overslept for anything since then, either. Do you generally feel rested when you wake up? SongHyeonDeok
Extremely light sleeper. When someone walks to the bathroom in the morning I wake up. BoneyardBrew Member Posted April 5, 2012 Member Share Posted April 5, 2012 I'm a very light sleeper. I sleep with a relatively loud fan on through every season of the year to avoid waking up over every single peep in the house.
neingesicht
I've got pretty messed up insomnia. I sleep really heavy most times, but randomly some days I'll wake up and that's it. It'll be midnight and I'm up for the day. Not fun.

I guess it depends on when I actually went to bed. I think my sleep cycles are pretty rigid. I seem to always do best with around 3 hour naps or full 8 hour sleeps. So if I'm forced to wake up before a cycle is over I might feel kinda zombified. But once I'm up and moving around, my energy levels generally come back to normal. Bryan R.
I sleep through anything. I have a pretty good internal clock though so somehow I am able to either ease up around when my alarm should go off or just get up on my own around the right time. I'm the same way, I only get around 6-8 hours of sleep but no matter how much later I stay up than normal I always am awake before my alarm goes off, but I normally just lay their lazily until it does. :p

Emily_June
Heavy.....for the first hour after I go to sleep and before I wake up, I am a pretty light sleeper, but once I'm asleep I can sleep through storms and everything. Storms usually help me sleep. Rain always does. But that comes from my mother adoring storms, and putting me down for naps with her or reading me stories during storms. Extremely light sleeper. When someone walks to the bathroom in the morning I wake up. Sometimes even someone switching a light on in another room can wake me up. Oh yes. Me too. That soft, padded landing sound of a cat jumping down from the table onto the floor across the house (maybe 70+ yards away? and through several walls) wakes me up. I could always sense when someone was walking towards my door, even quietly, because I'd wake up just before they'd get to it every time. It's very hard to sneak up on me, when I'm sleeping. :ninja: I'm a very light sleeper. I sleep with a relatively loud fan on through every season of the year to avoid waking up over every single peep in the house. That's exactly what helps me, too. Once spring hits, and I can put the window fan in, I blast it on high to drown out those little noises. That's definitely when I sleep slightly heavier. See, that's why I can't stand alarm clocks. I think that's why I always wake up a while before they ever go off. I don't like being woken suddenly from a deep sleep. I need to wake, gradually, on my own to feel any semblance of rest--which is, of course, how it is for everyone. After a 20 minute nap--if your body has gone through an entire cycle--you generally feel more rested and refreshed than after an hour long nap, if your body puts itself into a second cycle and is interrupted. Once I wake up, I can't go back to sleep if I know an alarm is going off, soon. Even if it's an hour away. I can't stand feeling startled. Looks a lot like my sleep pattern. :/ When I have more time in bed, it's quite a bit more up and down. Here's my sleep pattern from the night before last, when I was able to stay in bed longer: The high spikes are from getting up to pee. I have the world's tiniest bladder. -Himanshu-
Heavy sleeper, people can jump on my bed and I will still be sleeping. I take 8-10 hours of sleep everyday. And yeah, that internal alarm thing happens to me also, especially in exams. When it is very important to wake up next day, I fix my mind onto it and go to sleep and wake up nearly around my alarm time, even if I slept at 11 pm and alarm is of 4 am. Mystic Mungis
One time I went to bed, woke up the next morning and the house across from me wasn't there any more... it had burned down, so I'd say I'm a heavy sleeper :p
Farstrider
If I am tired I can sleep through anything! Also does not matter what time of the day it is! When I am rested I can wake up pretty much immediately and get going! So I guess that I am a bit of both.
