Wanna see how the witcher 2 stacks up on the 360?

It's certainly no secret that The Witcher 2 is one of PC gaming most visually impressive titles. Not to mention the award winning story. So it's no surprise that a 360 port is in the works.

But how is it going to look on the 360? Check the video below to find out:

While there are sacrifices, naturally, some stuff actually looks better on the 360, like the prison scene, especially since it doesn't have the Vaseline covered metal all over. The excessive glossiness seems to be an overall problem with the pc version.

You've gone insane lol. In no way did anything shown on the 360 side look better than the PC counterpart. The tint or lack of proper shading/lighting made everything look muddy and blurry.

You're saying the cling wrap and Vaseline covered metal and skin is better than the more realistic matte look

Doesn't look that way to me. What I see is actual light reflecting off on the textures in the PC version, where the 360 has no lighting at all except for the candle flame itself.

I personally like the atmospheric depth in the 360 version is better (if at some points a bit too much). The 360 version is almost identical when considering the difference in viewing (PC around 1ft-2ft / Television 5ft-15ft depending on screen size). The only significant difference is lighting and colors. I enjoy colorful games, but the PC version looks like it was recorded with digital vibrance on (something I never turn on in a game because it turns it into a fun house of colors).

Who the hell recorded the PC version? I have played the game to death (on PC with settings on "Ultra") and never encountered what looks like a coloured filter on some of the scenes.

I actually think the overall color palette of the 360 looks better, I do not like how the PC version always has a tint to everything, but as Belgarath said, I do not necessarily recall that being the case on the PC version. No doubt everything else as far as textures, etc. looks much better on the PC, that literally goes without saying, but I do like the colors, in particular the variety of said colors, better on the 360.

Never actually got round to giving this a try, might see if i can get the demo on Steam,

Have to say the PC version looks very blue, but from what you guys have said it doesn't look a good match up.

The 360 version looks better (color palette wise) although with lesser details. Overall not bad for a console that costs less than a top-end graphics card. :p

I'd go the other way, and stress the importance of ambient lighting effects on the experience as a whole. It really gives the sense of being in different places or different states of mind.

Wow. That is in no way a good representation of what the PC version is capable of.

That said, I'm fairly impressed with how good the xbox 360 version looks, and keep in mind that for most of that video the xbox 360 version was being compared to the PC version on medium settings. It's been awhile since I played Witcher 2, but I believe that it had low settings, medium settings, high settings, very high settings, and ludicrously high settings.

It is pretty impressive though the things they can do with consoles considering how limited they are. :)

To be honest, it looks like they've done a good job on the 360 version. However, they're trying to compare them both on youtube that is known for its poor encode quality anyway, but not only that they have uploaded it in 720p AND switch between medium and high settings on the PC camera....Not are they not going to see that much a difference at 720p and the poor youtube encoding but most PC gamers will be playing at a higher res then that with max settings.

I feel consoles are less hindered than PC's are due to a hardware standard. It means the developers can push more out of the configuration than can be done on the PC (they instead jump through hoops to make it work on any configuration sacrificing optimization for general performance). More possibilities means more work in the long run, and also means making something that satisfies the worst common denominator (in my field, its Internet Explorer Exploder)

Resolution comparison between 360 and PC is somewhat pointless considering the difference in seating. A PC screen demands higher resolution since you are sitting usually no more than 1-2ft from the screen. A television, on the other hand, is going to be at least 5ft and on average around 6-8ft. At that range even if the screen was 1080p, unless the surface area is significant enough to stretch the pixels you won't really be able to tell.

"one of PC gaming most visually impressive titles." maybe 6 years ago that would have been true

What? You must be joking. Maybe the PC you played it on sucks.

As far as I know all of the sex scenes will be available in the 360 version. I think I read somewhere there is even going to be extra content.

There's a mega patch for PC (10 gb) due out in the next few days. That is intended to bring any useful optimizations back to the PC version - without sacrificing quality of course.

I strongly disagree. I think The Witcher 2 is one of the best-looking RPGs in the last five years. It's using CD Projekt's in-house engine called RED. In terms of features, it's pretty advanced. The only thing it lacks are DX10/DX11 specific features. Unfortunately, it's somewhat demanding but the upcoming enhanced edition patch may change that.

Indeed. It's going to upgrade current owners of The Witcher 2 to the enhanced edition for free. And future owners will get that instead of the original. They're also giving a DRM-free backup of the game on GOG.com to all owners. :)

Anyway, I think they've done an awesome job with the X360 version. If I didn't have a gaming PC, I'd definitely get the X360 version. I can't wait to get the enhanced edition for the PC. The X360 version looks great and the PC version will look even better.

Just played some Witcher 2 this morning. Something must be wrong with the PC they did their recording on because in my Witcher 2 those scenes don't have full-screen red weirdness nor the muddy textures - And I tried on Medium, High, and Ultra settings.

Did you turn off post processing outside of the settings. I think it's just a post process effect for cinematics, and may not be affected by the graphics settings. Though it's been a while since I played it.
