For $50 you can just buy an air compressor that'll do more than just clean a pc.

Yep,

My little portable air compressor does a perfect job of that. Has EASILY paid for itself just from NOT having to buy canned air.

There's no way in the world I'm sticking an electrically powered household vacuumn cleaner in my computers! I do have a vacuumn cleaner that runs on batteries, but it's not really very powerful. It does an all right job of cleaning up the loose stuff I blew out with the compressor though.

Well mine has filters on the case, and is a PAIN IN THE ASS to disconnect. Though I did blow out my server it was running REALLY loud while doing CPU intensive stuff. Now it's quiet as a whisper :)

This thing looks awesome, though the rip-off UK price is just not feasible.

Though seriously, has anybody killed their computer after cleaning with a standard vacuum cleaner? I used a Henry vacuum cleaner to clean out over 80 computers in a school some years back. As well as it doing a good job of cleaning out bits of sandwich, garbage and dust they all worked fine afterwards (in fact, much better).

After probably fixing around 100+ computers in that school and only taking the "touch the PSU" precaution, I haven't managed to blow any computers due to static. Maybe the older electronic circuit boards are more vulnerable to this?

Exactly, plus in most cases it produces static electricity in the process which isn't good for circuit boards!

I have a small vacuum cleaner that was designed to use on electronics. It sucks on one end and blows on the other. You just have to make sure that it is clean before blowing. It does have a filter. It also does not blow hard enough to remove components but it does a great job on dust. I think I paid around $20 for it in the late 90's and it still works.

How often are you guys cleaning your pcs?

About every couple weeks. I live in a dusty area. so dust collects on the grill and this is a sign to vacuum out the inside.

Thanks for sharing this. I was literally just looking at my box of canned air last night, realized I only had 1 left, and was dreading spending another 20+ bucks on a 6 pack. This is truly perfect, and will really come in handy with much more than just my computer. I found out this winter my dog (who was only a mere puppy last winter) sheds like a mad man in the winter, and since we do most of our hanging out in my TV room, my consoles and laptops are not only getting dust on them, but his hair as well. This will be PERFECT for that. Even if it is loud, I prefer clean over loud, and can just blow it all in one corner, then pick it up with the Dyson.

I was truly struggling for what to get with my credit. Thanks for the inspiration!

back on topic, if you want compressed air, just buy an actual compressor, you can get cheap ones for the price of this thing, and you can use it for a lot more than just cleaning computers :)

Accept if you do that you have to make SURE that it has a moisture filter. Because those things do spray condensation water droplets.

not entirely true. unless you use one of those hand chains around the nozzle and hook it up to the case.

But in the sense, that the case, plugged in, to a properly grounded outlet, should dissipate any static charge to the outlet?

well... you'll in essence just give the static charge a better reason to jump through your components to get to the case and to ground, so no :)

I picked this up a few years ago for around $50. Works better than any canned or vaccum type blower. Get over 100psi out of a vaccum type, I would like to see it.

They may be noisy, but they are infinity better than a vacuum motor. As far as condensation goes, yea sure there is...about as much as what is in the air currently. It gets so atomized it is irrelevant for what we need it for, tools on the other hand...well we aren't dealing with a 20+-gal compressor where condensation would build up enough to warrant a water seperator...I don't use one on my 10 gal and blown many computers out with it.
