can I upgrade to quad core processor

Recommended Posts

Most important is that the socket is right..

[edit]Also what poster above said, no info recieved from you regarding spec, makes it a bit hard to say.

Would help if you gave us the rest of your specs, ie. motherboard and current CPU models

Not to mention this is completely in the wrong place as well.

1. Find out what the brand / model of the mobo is

2. Check what BIOS is on the system

3. Go to the mobo maker's site. And see what BIOS update you need for whatever quad

4. If the latest BIOS is on the system already (and it supports whatever Quad, you can install it). If it doesnt support it, you'll have to flash the BIOS FIRST. Before you install the Quad, Otherwise the computer wont turn on. After, you install the quad

Please post some info, people here actually love to help, believe it or not.

on a sarcastic note....

Maybe you just need to change your core fluid? If you put in quad core fluid instead you should be all set!

it's possible but there is no way of knowing without knowing what cpu socket your motherboard uses

That's socket lga 775. On Newegg I'm only seeing single- and dual-core CPUs for that socket, so probably not. I'm not sure if there are quad-cores for that socket because I have always used AMD so I don't know off the top of my head which Intel CPU types have what number of max cores, but if there are I would estimate you'll have a very difficult time finding them if Newegg doesn't have them.

Edit: the product specs indicate you can use this CPU: Intel? Core? 2 Quad processor. If you can find one for that socket. Newegg lists this one http://www.newegg.co...N82E16819115017 , which is out of stock and may not (probably not) ever be restocked. But if that CPU looks good to you at least you'll have a model number to go looking elsewhere like Ebay for it. Amazon appears to have 6 left in stock for nearly $400 each.

aw well that kinda sucks.Guess i have have to buy a new motherbord and everthing

That's what I'd do; you'd end up with a more upgradeable machine and a better cpu probably for less money.
