The Starship Enterprise that was almost real

For my money, one of the more interesting 'unsung heroes' in the entertainment business (and there are many, many of them) is a man called Gary Goddard.

Goddard is something of a jack of all trades: he's an accomplished producer on and off Broadway, over the years he's been hugely responsible for the development and implementation of a number of high profile, high end attractions (TERMINATOR 2 3D: BATTLE ACROSS TIME at Universal, JURASSIC PARK: THE RIDE, also at Universal, the recently closed STAR TREK EXPERIENCE in Vegas, etc).

Back in 1992, Goddard & Co. came close...very close...to mounting an extraordinarily ambitious project in the heart of Las Vegas, which was looking for ways to make bold statements, establish unusual attractions, and generally revitalize itself. A life-sized Starship Enterprise was proposed...which they actually figured out how to build. Visitors would be able to tour the ship's interior, and engage in a number of entertainment opportunities. The attraction would've looked something like this -

Well if you dont expect it to fly or fire photon torpedos I see no reason to suggest this wouldnt be very possible. Would be a very defining part of any city landscape though looking at the size so they'd want to be damn sure :)

Wow that would have been pretty epic. Would have definitely been a reason to go to Vegas at least...

Those images look fantastic, sadly not a fan of Star Treck so i wouldn't have had the urge to go see it, i can still see being in at an attraction of that calibre would be impressive.

Nothing is impossible. Maybe someday someone or some company will indeed create such an attraction. As a matter of fact, that would be an awesome attraction to put at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, where tourist attractions are very much indeed needed. The KSC is bleeding for tourists. This would be awesome to have there.

Birdies say that SpaceX and NASA are talking about them using one of the old Shuttle pads as the East coast Falcon Heavy pad, the one being build at Vandenberg AFB in California being the West coast facility.

The 27 engine (!) Falcon Heavy would put on one hellatious show for those KSC visitors to watch :)
