htcz
Hello Im trying to setup Windows Server 2008 (Love that it is so locked down) but what I love about it, also makes it difficult as Ive never been in this enviroment.... Basically, this is only going to run a Apache Tomcat server and have a MySQL database installed. Connections will be going in and out but only from the Apache Tomcat and MySQL. Nothing else (Maybe a bit of VNC, VPN and Terminal Services later on) How do I configure this? Network connections are pretty much restricted in every sense except internally. BTW, this WS2008 wont have AD, DNS, etc etc. It will be just used for this. Thank you

olger901
I agree with BudMan. Pick any popular Linux distribution like Debian or Ubuntu. No reason to be running it on Microsoft Windows, unless there's a very specific reason.
ToneKnee
I would go with Debian for a stripped down version where you can SSH into it or Ubuntu Server LTS which can install everything for you.
paxa
as the above comments say....go with a linux distro. also centos is a good distro for servers. try them on a virtual machine and then choose what suits you and dive into it
