I had been using a 480GTX since it was released. Needless to say - I was never really impressed.
About 3-4 months ago I noticed it was running hotter than normal - so I had the fans running @ 60% @ idle, 80% when gaming.

I went to Fry's and picked up a 570GTX SC HD @ $290 (price match)

Popped it in, and not only is it 15 degrees cooler, its 1/2 as loud.

I dont even care about the performance - at this point - I am happy already.

I plan on doing a complete system build this summer and this will probably carry over as a little BF3 is the only taxing thing I do.

Thats all -just wanted to say Im happy with my purchase. :D

You didn't consider just replacing the fan? The stock fan that came with my GTX 560 was extremely noisy and very hot, but became silent and very cool after I replaced the fan with an Accelero Xtreme. The only downside with the Accelero is it takes up 3 slots.

Nice. Last week I upgraded my two Sapphire 5870s for two Sapphire 7970 OCs (don't ask me why :p) and couldn't be happier with my drop in temps and noise. It's nice to have an almost silent PC for a change!

The same performance, but cooler and quiter. Nice

I guess it was worth it.

Congratulations

No I didnt, mainly because I was needing a video card to donate to someone who is trying to build a new system. I already gave him my old PC Power & Cooling 750W.

Hence the term " Upgrade".

aaahhhhhh - now it makes sense :)

Same performance ? hmmm didnt know that - I was hoping for a little boost.
I havent even fired up anything - I was just admiring the lack of a leafblower sound next to me.

the 400 series sucked.

they all run hot and the fans are crazy loud mainly from running so hot.

they fixed the problems with the 500 series and it's getting even better with the 600 series.

well I fired up a little BF3 & cant tell a difference framerate wise. I left the fans on Auto, when I finished it was @ 78 degrees & the fans were at 65% -

I still think it was a good purchase @ $290. I need to be conservative in my spending this month. I am buying a new truck & some of the custom crap wont be cheap... So I dont think I'll return it and get something beefier.

Could of looked into an aftermarket cooler for the 480, might of saved yourself a few Pennies that could of gone to the new Truck

You're right. I always get buyer's remorse - kinda frustrating at times.

I am going to do my best and forget this - maybe I'll sell the 480 for $100 then the purchase of the 570 wont seem so pointless.
