0 ShMaunder
I can tell you what else makes me cringe, this thread. I stopped the video in the article half way in. There was so much messing about on the Mac and Eclipse. I was looking for a "sponsored by Microsoft" statement on the article. +virtorio 1 Share
0 +virtorio MVC Posted April 13, 2012 MVC Share Posted April 13, 2012 It's a good thing app developers spend most of their day working on things other than hello world applications. It would also help with the the guy who made this would learn to use the other tools properly first. Stetson and +Matthew S. 2 Share

0 ShMaunder
You didn't read the article whats-o-ever did you... Nope, I apologise :p Just the video made me cringe. But why do you have "You poor, poor mac developers!" in your OP??
0 Kalint
Nope, I apologise :p Just the video made me cringe. But why do you have "You poor, poor mac developers!" in your OP?? I was browsing for plug-ins for visual studio when I came across this article. I was a bit intrigued by the Xcode IDE and just googled it as I have never used it before. Generally, I've seen a lot of complaining about xcode so I was curious what the real mac developers opinions are on it. I put that ending "You poor, poor mac developers!" because it just looks tedious from the articles and videos i've seen. Nothing malicious. 0 vhane
How fast you can build a hello world app is a poor metric for measuring the efficiency of an IDE. Oh, there's no need pity the poor Mac developers. Xcode is pretty good as far as IDEs go. As for your original question of "Is Xcode really like this?" Well, the video was way too short to gain anything meaningful out of it. What you'd really want to find out are the various workflows for things like debugging, profiling, refactoring, SCM integration, etc. If you are really interested in finding out what it's like to use it on a day to day basis, look up some of the "Developer Tools" videos from WWDC. 0 Antaris Veteran Posted April 21, 2012 Veteran Share Posted April 21, 2012 Even as a VS developer, I would say that the author of the video is much more comfortable with VS so naturally will be more familiar with that environment over any other. Although I know C and Java, drop me in either XCode or Eclipse and I wouldn't initially be lost too as my naturally affinity is for VS.
