This is the embarrassing moment a £250,000 Lamborghini Aventador burnt to the ground - on a TEST DRIVE.

The sleek supercar was being driven on a highway in California, USA, when it suddenly burst into flames.

Both the customer and dealer emerged unscathed but the Lambo wasn’t so fortunate - with firefighters unable to prevent it burning to a crisp.

Amateur video posted online shows rescuers hosing down the car as it throws ash, flames and smoke over the road.

It seems safe to assume the prospective customer did not end up buying the by now burnt-out car he'd been test driving.

It is understood to have been the first Aventador to be written off as a result of fire.

I'm glad the customer and the dealer got out of the car without injury. But I don't feel bad about the car. Lamborghinis, like most over-priced sports cars, are completely useless.

I guess comments about Lamborghini's being too safe to drive since Audi bought them have now been quashed?

For that much money, they should have gotten a protocol from a fire-truck! :D

Real shame from the super-car. I really like Lambo!

Yeah, I want to see if they are able to determine why exactly it caught fire.

The first Ferrari 458s had spontaneous combustion issues because the glue they used in the rear wheel arches would get too hot and catch fire. It isn't a unique issue, though obviously it's quite a serious one.
