LANDRUM, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Landrum police said they were called to a local business after a woman said two men tried to rob and sexually assault her, but she scared them off when she fired shots at them.

Police said the attack happened about 1 a.m. According to the incident report, the woman had just locked the store's back door when two men approached her and demanded she go inside.

She refused, one of them pushed her against the door and ripped off her necklace while the other grabbed her earrings, according to the report.

Investigators said as she continued to refuse, the men ripped open her shirt, exposing her chest, so she offered to give them money she had in her back pocket. When she went for the money she pulled out her handgun and fired one round at the subjects, according to the report.

One of the men said "Oh, hell no" and they took off running, according to police. They said the victim ran to the police station to report the assault and attempted robbery.

Police used a canine unit to track the men, but were unable to catch them. They said the men were dressed in dark clothes. One had a dark, straight-billed baseball cap with bull horns on the front while the other was wearing a dark hoodie and dark baggy cargo pants.

Nothing was stolen, according to the report. As of Tuesday, no arrests have been made in the case.

Clearly we need more gun control laws. What was this woman thinking? She could have killed them.

And BTW: as of 2011 25% of US gun owners were women, and the stats are increasing. Last time I was at the range they had a women-only concealed carry class going and the classroom was packed. It holds 60. The female demand is so heavy they are making pistols in pink :p

Hopefully - if they required treatment it'll make them easier to find.

I just saw a guy on post at the PX here at JBLM buying a pink pistol for his wife, semi-automatic. I was there cause' I finally got around to picking up some trigger locks for my long guns since my wife baby-sits, and trigger locks are a hell of a lot cheaper than a safe, and work better in an apartment.

My wife carries, my mom carries, hell almost all of my close female friends own and carry a handgun. Good to see that she came out of the situation ok, and I hope that round hit one of them.

Did you forget your sarcastic smiley? If not then I hope you get mugged and/or raped and see how pleasant that is.

I'm really disappointed that she didn't managed to hit any of these guys. It'd be a lot better than paying to keep these guys in prison or have them out them robbing/raping other people.

The women in my family are also armed most all the time, and my daughter is very much the wrong gal to mess with. Has been since she was 6; some 12 y/o punk was beating up her older brother and she crowned him with a rock :p

Yet another example of the need to carry firearms. If this woman didn't have a firearm at her disposal, she would be raped, robbed, dead, etc.

Bottom line: With a firearm she had options, without one she would be a statistic.

Bingo - they are indeed a great equalizer, especially when faced with more than one threat.
