The California teen who made national headlines when she and her high school teacher moved in together told a local television station that the two are back together.

Jordan Powers, 18, told a reporter for Sacramento TV station CBS13 that she and James Hooker, 41, are a couple again. The interview was conducted on the steps of Hooker's apartment in Modesto through a screen door.

In an ABC news interview two weeks ago, Powers said she had called off the relationship with Hooker after allegations that the teacher sexually abused another student more than a decade ago. Powers packed her bags and moved to Ohio with her mom.

Tammie Powers, mother, told the Modesto Bee that she thought the two were seeing each other again. After they moved away, Hooker called Jordan "relentlessly," she said.

"She left on her own. She hired a cab and booked her own flight," Tammie Powers said.

"It is awful," she said. "This is what pedophiles, predators do. They isolate them from family."

Neighbors say Powers moved back in recently.

Hooker was arrested on April 6 for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student he allegedly met at a high school conference in 1998. He entered a not guilty plea and remains out on bail.

Wait... I'm confused... Wouldn't that mean she was eight years old when they were a "couple"? If it was more than a decade ago, and she is now 18...?



Or was the article written incorrectly... Or am I reading something wrong?

Article written correctly. Was a different student that he "allegedly" has sex with 10 years ago.

The kid did this of her own free will. It sounds more like the mother is a failure as a parent instead.

You are so right.
It sad that in the ancient times Jouliet managed to kill herself with the poison. That witch should be burned at stake after she sexually abused poor innocent Romeo, who wasn't even 18! Those high-school couples really need to be broken up and jailed if not killed. Stupid love is threatening American future. Love must be killed for the great american justice.

P.S. BTW, if you read an article about a young man having sex with 17 years-old woman and imagine the girl as a "kid" in your head, you need to see your therapist. I suspect you are one of those dirty paedophiles too.

Just to be clear, looking at both stories, it appears this girl is currently 18 so legally allowed to do whatever she wants. And the previous girl was 17 years old at the time - but we don't know if this was consensual or not from this story.


So, using a word like "pedophile" is EXTREMELY misleading and completely inaccurate - even quoting an angry mother. While the age difference makes this a very inappropriate and rather twisted situation, the fact is that he was their TEACHER and that makes it illegal in additional to the technical statutory rape tag.

Note that in every other country in the world, women have the right to consensual sex at the ages of 14-16, but the situation with a TEACHER preying on students is always a misuse of the power/trust position they have been entrusted with via their employment.

Note that this guy is almost completely bald at 41, so he's clearly compensating with some mid-life crisis issues as well the girls who are dealing with some missing daddy issues. 8P

Oh, so basically this is a story of a teacher who had sex with a 17 year old student. And 10 years later has a girlfriend who is 18, she finds out, breaks up, then gets back together..?

Anyway, I would say it's creepy that he was their teacher, you shouldn't start something with your students as it could always be seen as a sign of abusing your power. But to call him a paedophile? She's 18, old enough to know who she wants to share her bed with.

The age of consent is mostly a State issue under our system and ranges from 16 to 18, though many states have laws that limit an adult consorts age to no more than 3-5 years older than the minor and bans sexual contact with "persons of authority" like teachers, school administrators etc.

In many States it's absolutely possible for one member of a High School couple to be charged with Statutory Rape if one is above the age of consent and the other below it and they have sex, even if it's oral or touching. Under the Federal Mann Act it's a federal crime to transport a person across State lines for sexual purposes - a law intended to hit inter-State prostitution and human trafficking gangs.
