I'm getting a TV, just a quick one, don't really want one but g/f is calling for one

So just trying to get in something cheap quick but I want a big screen

Is there a BIG difference between these 2 and would you recommend one over the other? There is a difference of $100 to them

The Samsung supports a higher resolution with full 1080p HD.

Also Samsung produce better quality TV's IMO, but it also reflects on the price.

The Samsung is Full HD (1080p) whereas the LG is not.

But ill look for a LED TV Full HD instead of Plasma. Keep that in mind.
Led tv display bright and colorful content also energy saver Plasma tends to downgrade pic quality over time.

Sounds like the problem I had with my wife, I never owned a television until we got Married She made me buy one.

I'd recommend an LED as well, but a LCD would suffice if the cost is too high. I love my LG, but Samsung makes quality products as well. Either should give you good service.

As others have said you really should go with the Samsung out of those two, really will require the full HD resolution at that screen size. Had you of been looking at smaller screens then I would have been tempted to say bite the bullet, get the LG and enjoy the spare $100.

Also, no need to get an LED/LCD since plasma is perfectly fine. It technically has better color quality, but will suck a bit more power than LED/LCD. LCD is brighter since it's backlit, but plasma will give you better defined blacks, so it really depends on the environment where it will be. If it will be in a sunny area and you'd like a brighter screen, go LCD. If the area is darker and you'd like better colors, get plasma. Also, LCD and plasma will have basically the same lifespan. They both get darker with age, but we're talking about a decade or so for that to get bad. By then, I'm sure you will have moved on to something better. Also, if you want to hang it on the wall, then get LED/LCD since as you can see by the weight of the plasma TV, it's a beast.

I have quite a nice LG TV, nothing wrong with the build quality but here I would go for the samsung. A 50 inch TV that isn't 1080p is not worth it unless it is significantly cheaper.
