Reuters: Google Drive to offer up to 100GB of storage, Tuesday launch teased

The rumors about Google Drive have been coming fast and furious lately, and now we've got one more piece to add to the puzzle ? as well as a possible launch date. Reuters is reporting that Google's cloud-storage service will indeed launch with 5GB of free storage as was reported last week, but adds that users will be able to add additional tiers of capacity for a monthly charge, all the way up to a maximum of 100GB. According to Reuters' "source familiar with the matter," a launch is imminent, with an announcement to be made as soon as Tuesday. As expected, the service is said to allow users to store documents, images, and other files, and will implement a "sophisticated image search technology" for quick access through the stored files. With alleged apps and Google Drive sharing options having been spotted in recent days, there's little doubt that the service is coming. Whether Reuters' timeline proves to be correct, however, still remains to be seen.

Needs to beat Dropbox for easy of use - Skydrive was ok but so far Dropbox is still king of functionality.

Why is Google Drive an option when no one has it (yet). For me I chose Box (for now). Because I am an Android user, I will check out and install Google Drive regardless.

iCloud and SkyDrive are not cross platform. So they automatically get a no. I chose Box because it is cross platform and since my organization pays for it, I get unlimited storage and bandwidth. Otherwise I would have chose Dropbox because of what I already mentioned.

Dropbox for automatic uploading photos and videos from the phone, UbuntuOne as a "just in case" extra backup for files I'll likely need to access to from different devices.

I tried the new SkyDrive integration for Windows, and I thought I'd use it for sharing files, until I realized just what a pain in the ass it is to get a public link to the file, so I still prefer DropBox, but will try GDrive when it comes round.

Finally a big one comes upfront and completely ends the DropBox mice games to get 300MG and crums to the mice users.

Now they can stop the ... " i have 21 Gb on dropbox...ho ho i have 23Gb " maybe start measuring other more important things :)

Bye Bye DropBox, not really nice to meet your exept for the part you had it all and gave it away with the crums to your precious users.

Should be interesting to see how this plays out. The feature set and intergration is what it really comes down too rather than space. Skydrive with deep windows intergration, phones etc. Dropbox with unique and user friendly features on many platforms. Google will have to come out with a solid offering that doesn't lean too much into work in progress.

Opening HD video within the browser, integration with existing Google products (e.g. documents). I don't think it's excessively bad.

It's not bad, no, but the market exists already, and I don't think this is going to make anyone change.

it makes me happy that it always bothers you what i do.

Exactly what i wanted.

Again, the topic is

Which cloud storage option do you prefer?

If i prefer it i will vote on it.... what is bothering you so much about it???

On the contrary dear friend, I find it hilarious that you'd vote for an unreleased product (at the time) over better choices like DropBox and Skydrive, just because it's made by Google.

Keep the humour rolling!

P.S. Curious if you're gonna pay for the 25GB rather than get it for free from MS? Wotcha thinking?

So the Google preachers like still1 and Boz can vote on it, and bask in the glory of doing so, as you can see by the amount of votes so far (click view to see their votes)

Well now that everything has been revealed, my answer is still the same. I use Box and I used to use Google Docs (now I use Google Drive). So I guess I need a multiple vote.

If I were Dropbox, I'd be worried right now. Within the space of a week, there are 2 new competitors in the market, and both of them have huge companies behind them to push them to their audiences.

iCloud and SkyDrive are not cross platform.

Stop with the lies. SkyDrive has an iOS app (and Android with the unofficial SkyDrive Browser) and is accessible from any browser.

It doesn't integrate at all with Linux and barely with Android (if that unofficial app is any good). Compared to other services like Dropbox and UbuntuOne I wouldn't consider Skydrive as crossplatform.

really, because usually a program is considered cross-platform if it works on more than one OS and it seems to me, Skydrive works on 3 OS's officially (Windows, Mac, iOS) and 1 unofficially (Android)

so according to you since there isn't a program for Linux it's obviously not cross-platform? hmm, something in this logic doesn't quite sit right

The Google Apps integration seems nice, but Google's privacy policy makes me pretty leery of using this.

Besides, Dropbox hasn't failed me yet, and they'll probably reduce their prices to stay competitive.

I don't doubt that, that's one of the good things about competition, it makes prices lower :)

plus all the deals DropBox occasionally does on their forums for free extra space

Currently using Dropbox, tempted to move over to Skydrive just because of the greater amount of storage available.
