Microsoft Security Essentials 4.0 final on Windows Update

46 posts in this topic

I can't find any announcement or blog post pertaining to it (yet). Nevertheless, Microsoft Security Essentials 4.0 final is available via Windows Update.

It doesn't look like it has changed much UI-wise. Much to my surprise the update from MSE 2.x to 4.0 did not require a reboot.

Do you notice anything different under the hood? Are the scans faster? Is more malware detected?

what does that have to do with what he was asking?

Windows Defender IS mse in Windows 8, installing mse in windows 8 is redundant

Detecton, MSE is already built into Windows 8, and will not install from the link you gave.

Considering the thread is about MSE I misread his post and assumed he was wanting to update MSE on Win 8

I was asking about the build in MSE on windows 8... I thinks its different from the link you posted.

I can check it out after going home not a problem.. or if someone is using win 8 now please post the results.

How is this on XP these days? I remember it used to be a bit of a hog. Have Avast on my bootcamp partition but I could replace it with this if it's improved.

I think MSE has improved a lot in performance and detection rate... i was using Kasperky before and i have switched to MSE on my windows 7 laptop.

MSE on windows XP a hog? Are you nuts? It's never used much in terms of system resources at all.

I think I recall from the beta that they actually removed some options. Is that still the case with the final?

What option are you worried about? As I don't use enough to know, but I can see if it is in my 4 install...
