googledrivesync.exe - share your experience

Question

For me there are 2 major problems.

1. It hugs half of my cpu and all my system turns sluggish.

gdrive.PNG

2. GDrive uses all of my upload rate what makes it impossible to surf the web. I need to use something like NetLimiter to limit GDrive to 80% of my upload speed in order to surf normally.

Then don't have it open all the time? I'm not constantly saving stuff to the cloud. Maybe once a week I'll run the program to update my data in the cloud. Pointless having it running all the time!

Cloud apps like this are designed to be running all the time. They should be silent until they're being used. Other services manage it. It isn't really cloud storage if the data can be up to a week old.

mine oddly enough uses exactly the same amount of memory that Dropbox does (48Mb)

I really don't understand how no body is talking about that on the web. This is by far the worst cloud windows app I've tried. The only reason i can think of is that i'm the only one suffering from those issues because even googling "googledrivesync.exe" or "googledrivesync.exe CPU" - first result takes me right back to this thread.

I tried, but each time I was shutting down Win8, it stuck with a memory error. Uninstalled it.

my process is using 0 cpu right now and 21mb of memory...

Is it syncing?

Not had googledrivesync.exe take up 50% CPU, so may just be an isolated issue. Does it only happen when it's syncing, or all the time?

Yes. I've been uploading 60 gigs in the last few days and it takes 50 CPU and 158MB constantly

I use both GoogleDrive and Dropbox and both use also roughly the same amount of memory, but Dropbox CPU utilization is always 0 or 1%, while Google Drive is always 2 to 15% on this dual core laptop. It makes a significant difference in the amount of time the CPU fan cycles to high speed, compared to when I do not run it.

I do not like it. Dropbox is much less of a hog.

There are actually two googledrivesync.exe processes on this machine. One uses 600k of RAM and does not seem to use any CPU. The other one uses 48MB at the moment and is the one that runs.

Also, the CPU utilization does not depend on the web page/Google Drive folder being open or not and files being open or not.

Not sure how long I am going to keep it. At that rate, and if they don't improve that soon, it will be gone from my hard drive.

Dropbox has been working very well for me for at least 2 years now. I am just getting a little close to the 2GB of the free version. It seems like these people deserve some of my money...

OMG. Finally, I search the whole Internet and I found this thread. But nothing good for me.

I used both Google Sync app and Dropbox app. They always start up when my Win7 64bit start.

Dropbox.exe use only 0-2% of CPU but googlesyncapp use 10-15% of CPU.

It's almost burn my machine. my HP DV6, I7-720QM. (It's really hot when CPU% come to 10%-20%)

No issues with CPU thrashing here, using about 48mb of memory also.

The only issue i have on my lappy is when its not connected to the web and i shut down windows it refuses to close and i have to close it manually before windows will shutdown. Frustrating when you need the lappy a few hours later and the battery is dead because it was waiting for googlesync to close.

I have my lappy set to do nothing when the lid is shut but if i shut it before the shutdown is complete it doesnt shutdown it just sits there wasting the battery and googlesync doesnt help matters.
