Na, those are the regular MB, not the MBP, the memory was like that, to get to the HDD, I had to take off the entire top plate w/Keyboard, then security screw the HDD Cady housing from the Mobo.

oh yeah.. that's right. i stand owned.

Since I live in a country where consumers have rights, I wouldn't care either way, other qualities are more important. First to years are covered by warranty anyway, and the first 5 years are covered by reclamation, so if the HDD fails its still replaced as warranty.

Most laptops don't come with SSD's and some dont' even have SSD's as an option. because all my computers have SSD's (especially my laptops) I usually replace the stock hard drive wtih an ssd. so i prefer it be conveniently accessible.

No. The laptop I have now makes it easy to remove the fan, cpu, ram, hard drive and gpu.

I still would, I don't mind a little extra work to take out the HDD if the laptop is worth it.

There is only one reason you would have to remove anything other than the small panel to remove either the hard drive or the memory and that's because they don't want you to do it yourself. Manufactures could place those components anywhere they want when they are designing it so there is a conscious effort on their part to make it as inconvenient as possible.

Not really, the panels are there to make it easier for THEM to service it. When they do less panels it's on one of two types of laptops

1: cheap laptops where less parts s cheaper to make and less parts to assemble so it's cheaper to produce and assemble.
2: more expensive higher end laptops with unibody designs for design and because less panels and parts makes the product more solid.

This Is definitely very annoying.. I have a Acer Aspire One 522, and there are several steps to just get the backcover to come off. You can't just take it off you have to unscrew it and push it out from behind the keyboard.. Absolutely ridiculous..

No. Same goes for batteries, optical drives, memory cards, cleaning the fan(s) etc. I don't want to have to pull a gazillion screws just to get to them. I buy devices based on their functionality and ease of maintenance. Works of art need not apply.
Agreed! Servicing a laptop should be easy. I don't like manufacturers that design laptops where you can't access components quickly (erm Apple, I'm looking at you)

As long as I can get to it with a screwdriver, that's fine, although I've not changed out a laptop hard drive in a long time.

I don't think I could go back to using something other than a unibody though, most plastic ones feel like toys now.

As long as I can take it apart, absolutely I would, I have, and I will continue to do so.

I'm really disappointed with HP on how difficult they make replacing the fan. In most cases it requires removal of the entire motherboard and sometimes the display Assembly. Comparing that to some dell laptops, the fan was located under the keyboard. it was VERY easy to get to.

I've found the Macbook Pro to be pretty easy, just unscrew the bottom cover and everything's right there. I've also worked on other laptops where you had to take apart 10 different interlocking plastic panels to get to anything.

You also have to think that makes the apple technicians that service those laptop's life much more efficient.
