Man Killed In Beer Keg Explosion

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. -- A 26-year-old Beaver Falls native was killed by an exploding beer keg in a freak accident this week.

Ben Harris was pressurizing the keg with air to clean it at a Redhook brewery in Portsmouth, N.H., when the container exploded in his face on Tuesday.

Fire officials said Harris appeared to have been hit in his head and chest by pieces of the keg.

Spokesman Ted Fitzgerald said the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has been called to investigate whether there were any violations at the brewery, which fire officials said has a solid safety record.

Harris' Facebook page says his hometown is Beaver Falls and he is a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. His profile picture shows the Newington, N.H., man wearing a Steelers hat.

A memorial fund has been established to help Harris' unborn child. Checks can be written to the Alysha Miller Harris Baby Fund and mailed to TD Bank, 20 International Drive, Portsmouth, N.H., 03801.
