Maxing Out Crysis 2/NFS HP/NFS: The Run with i5-3570K - Best AMD GPU Choice

Recommended Posts

Okay - I'm upgrading an *existing* PC to i5-3570K, and I'm looking for the best-bang/least bucks single-GPU upgrade to match.

CPU - Intel Core i5-3570K @ 4 GHz

Motherboard - BIOSTAR TZ77XE4

RAM - 16GB

HDD - WD Caviar Green 1 TB HDD

All replies suggesting nVidia or multi-GPU setups will be ignored (multi-GPU - including CF/SLI - is NOT a consideration; because this is an existing rig, with an AMD GPU, nVIdia is also not an option).

Primary games - Crysis 2, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2010, Need for Speed - The Run

Target Resolution - 1920x1080

Target Detail - High (Ultra Preferred)

Target fps - minimum of 30 fps

My 4890 can max out both of those NFS games easily, they're really not demanding at all. Crysis 2 it's close but not ideal (and no DX11 features, obviously). So I'd say something like a HD7850 would be enough for what you want.

Curious why you don't want an nVidia GPU though. Just because you currently have an AMD GPU doesn't mean you can't use an nVidia GPU.

hot pursuit tops out at 60 fps regardless of what high-end gfx you use it will always be capped at 60 fps

You didn't specify a budget, so it's a little hard to recommend something.

You said AMD, so I'd look at the 7870 or 7950 if you can swing a little more cash.
