php [PHP] Client-side Ping?

I have a PHP script that will ping an IP address from the web server, works great. Downside is that the web server is not allowed to ping the address and even though the computer is running it will say its down. I have seen JS options that require an IMG load, but the computer is not a server and has no content to load.

Is there a method to ping from the client that's viewing the web page?

I'd focus more on allowing your web server to ping. There isn't a 'nice' way to do it from the client.
