Hey, I want peoples thoughts about maybe replacing all my 1TB hard drives (5 in total) with 1TB 2.5" drives instead. Performance is not really an issue as long as I get at least 50MBytes/s Read/Write and I'm currently using Storage Spaces which is working out very well for me. The aim is to lower power consumption as I've read that 2.5" drives use less power than an idle 3.5" version so this would save quite a bit of power over 5 hard drives.

Yes my last name is Crisp, I would use it but it's taken on Neowin

I like BK? New to me, I don't eat fast food, now quit talking about me pervs!... /thread derailed.

Screw HP and their microservers, built not brought! :woot:

I've got an Athlon II x4 (energy efficiant one) sat around doing nothing, might use it soon when I get some funds to get some Terrabytes.

Wish I could take some pics of the servers I have at work, but we have a no photography rule. I have unreleased hardware, so I can't be snapping pics and posting them online.

I will leave this here though:

I don't even really have a server at home. Actually, I have two computers at home, a Macbook that I do my daily stuff on, and a desktop running Ubuntu that I run as a server. Up until a couple of days ago, I was actually using that "server" as my main system, but then I got my Macbook back up and running, but they are both old. I really need to build a low power server since my "server" machine is really mostly just storage and Plex. Now that I moved into a house of my own and saw a $200 power bill for the first month, I'm starting to get a little thoughtful of my power usage.

Using a Alienware Area 51 right now for my home server. 5 3TB drives are on the way and its currently running Server 2012 Core (MinShell) and two machines in Hyper V as a test. Pretty spiffy looking server if I do say so :p

We've got two Server Rooms at work, one in the UK is pretty naff, just a few Dell Servers stacked, but the ones in Vancouver look awesome.

But, this is a 'Show us your Server' thread, not a 'Show us your Corp Server Room'
