Well, after a lot of thought, reading and talking to others that ride regularly, I decided to go buy my first motorcyle, which is a 2012 Kawasaki Ninja 650 in candy green. I signed the paperwork on Wednesday and picked it up yesterday afternoon. Took it for my first ride to my friend's house for poker night last night and it was a really nice and easy ride. The bike runs well and was a lot of fun to ride. Can't wait to get it broken in so I can get it above 4k rpm. Pictures are below:

This is me super happy that I finally got the bike. Now I pray that I stay this happy (and in this physical condition!) Also, Go Grizzlies (but Lakers first :shifty:)!

Thanks guys. After 2 days of riding, I've gotten a pretty good feel for it. I've come to the conclusion that my shifts suck, but I'm working on it, but my gas mileage is awesome. The picture speaks for itself. It's my average gas mileage over the last 2 days (and over 150 miles of riding).

Congrats man. Love the darker green on this, never cared for the lighter green on most Kawasakis.

Very nice bike! Did you take any riding courses first?

I prefer the darker green too. I never really liked the Kawasaki lime green, but this one is a very pretty color. I haven't taken any riding courses yet, but I'm scheduled to take the riders class on June 1-3 (the one for the middle of May filled up before I could register). Since I've had 4-wheelers and ridden dirt bikes, I know what I'm doing. It was a fast adjustment to the street, just need to get more comfortable leaning into turns.

It's probably too late now but don't be too worried about going over 4k RPM. It's more important to avoid engine strain than get hung up on keeping the revs low. having your bike chug at 3k is probably more harmful than sitting at 5k in a lower gear. That said, a modern Japanese engine will probably be fine no matter how its run in.

Anyway, it's good choice for a first bike. I have the unfaired version as a courtesy vehicle while my usual bike gets repaired. It's called the ER6 where I am however, here they save the Ninja branding for the ZX range.

Ahhhh! <jealous>

Love it :) Candy Lime Green is definitely my favourite colour from Kawasaki. I'm still waiting for my cost of insurance to go down before I can get my 250 (probably in CLG too).

Ride safe, shiny side up, ATGATT and all that jazz.
