ATLien_0
I have a MacBook pro bought last summer with 10.6.8 on it Been having a weird issue as of late. Randomly while working on an given task, I get a slight freeze or lag, spinning beach ball and a weird hard driving click. Then it stops. all my tasks I tried completing catch up Followed by a dialog that comes up with what looks like an applescript logo and "the command terminated due to receipt of a signal" Whats odd is that this isn't frequent, I might go a few hours with this happening or up to a week. Now today I boot up the MBP I hear a slight click and get a grey screen, I saved the code below, but rebooted and it was fine. Any ideas on this, Im wondering if something is up with the factory HDD? Wanted to get some opinions before I might take take it to Apple Interval Since Last Panic Report: 1194512 secPanics Since Last Report: 1Anonymous UUID: DCF959BC-00DD-489B-A150-48847CC49DBEMon May 7 08:31:14 2012panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff800047cc6c): "Process 1 exec of /sbin/launchd failed, errno 8\n"@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-1504.15.3/bsd/kern/kern_exec.c:3145Backtrace (CPU 0), Frame : Return Address0xffffff805f6ebd70 : 0xffffff8000204d150xffffff805f6ebe70 : 0xffffff800047cc6c0xffffff805f6ebed0 : 0xffffff800046afdd0xffffff805f6ebf00 : 0xffffff800048883b0xffffff805f6ebf40 : 0xffffff80002764350xffffff805f6ebf80 : 0xffffff80002d00c80xffffff805f6ebfa0 : 0xffffff80002e3f22BSD process name corresponding to current thread: initMac OS version:Not yet setKernel version:Darwin Kernel Version 10.8.0: Tue Jun 7 16:32:41 PDT 2011; root:xnu-1504.15.3~1/RELEASE_X86_64System model name: MacBookPro8,2 (Mac-94245A3940C91C80)System uptime in nanoseconds: 20144653406unloaded kexts:(none)loaded kexts:com.Logitech.Control Center.HID Driver 3.5.1com.apple.driver.AppleUSBTCButtons 201.6 - last loaded 1750588062com.apple.driver.AppleUSBTCKeyEventDriver 201.6com.apple.driver.AppleUSBTCKeyboard 201.6com.apple.driver.AppleIRController 303.8com.apple.iokit.SCSITaskUserClient 2.6.9com.apple.driver.AppleFWOHCI 4.7.7com.apple.iokit.IOAHCIBlockStorage 1.6.6com.apple.BootCache 31.1com.apple.AppleFSCompression.AppleFSCompressionTypeZlib 1.0.0d1com.apple.driver.AppleUSBHub 4.2.5com.apple.driver.AppleSDXC 1.0.4com.apple.driver.AppleEFINVRAM 1.4.0com.apple.driver.AppleSmartBatteryManager 160.0.0com.apple.driver.AppleAHCIPort 2.2.0com.apple.driver.AirPort.Brcm4331 433.11.5com.apple.iokit.AppleBCM5701Ethernet 3.0.8b2com.apple.driver.AppleUSBEHCI 4.2.6com.apple.driver.AppleUSBUHCI 4.2.5com.apple.driver.AppleACPIButtons 1.3.6com.apple.driver.AppleRTC 1.3.1com.apple.driver.AppleHPET 1.5com.apple.driver.AppleSMBIOS 1.7com.apple.driver.AppleACPIEC 1.3.6com.apple.driver.AppleAPIC 1.4com.apple.driver.AppleIntelCPUPowerManagementClient 142.6.0com.apple.security.sandbox 1com.apple.security.quarantine 0com.apple.nke.applicationfirewall 2.1.14com.apple.driver.AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement 142.6.0com.apple.driver.AppleThunderboltDPInAdapter 1.5.9com.apple.driver.AppleThunderboltDPAdapterFamily 1.5.9com.apple.driver.AppleThunderboltPCIDownAdapter 1.2.1com.apple.driver.BroadcomUSBBluetoothHCIController 2.4.5f3com.apple.driver.AppleUSBBluetoothHCIController 2.4.5f3com.apple.iokit.IOBluetoothFamily 2.4.5f3com.apple.driver.AppleUSBMultitouch 207.7com.apple.iokit.IOUSBHIDDriver 4.2.5com.apple.driver.AppleUSBMergeNub 4.2.5com.apple.driver.AppleUSBComposite 3.9.0com.apple.iokit.IOSCSIMultimediaCommandsDevice 2.6.9com.apple.iokit.IOBDStorageFamily 1.6com.apple.iokit.IODVDStorageFamily 1.6com.apple.iokit.IOCDStorageFamily 1.6.1com.apple.driver.XsanFilter 402.1com.apple.driver.AppleThunderboltNHI 1.3.2com.apple.iokit.IOThunderboltFamily 1.7.4com.apple.iokit.IOFireWireFamily 4.2.7com.apple.iokit.IOAHCISerialATAPI 1.2.6com.apple.iokit.IOSCSIArchitectureModelFamily 2.6.9com.apple.driver.AppleFileSystemDriver 2.0com.apple.iokit.IOUSBUserClient 4.2.4com.apple.iokit.IOAHCIFamily 2.0.7com.apple.iokit.IO80211Family 320.1com.apple.iokit.IONetworkingFamily 1.10com.apple.iokit.IOUSBFamily 4.2.6com.apple.driver.AppleEFIRuntime 1.4.0com.apple.iokit.IOHIDFamily 1.6.6com.apple.iokit.IOSMBusFamily 1.1com.apple.kext.AppleMatch 1.0.0d1com.apple.security.TMSafetyNet 6com.apple.driver.DiskImages 289com.apple.iokit.IOStorageFamily 1.6.3com.apple.driver.AppleACPIPlatform 1.3.6com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily 2.6.8com.apple.iokit.IOACPIFamily 1.3.0Model: MacBookPro8,2, BootROM MBP81.0047.B27, 4 processors, Intel Core i7, 2 GHz, 4 GB, SMC 1.69f3Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 6490M, AMD Radeon HD 6490M, PCIe, 256 MBGraphics: Intel HD Graphics 3000, Intel HD Graphics 3000, Built-In, 384 MBMemory Module: global_nameAirPort: spairport_wireless_card_type_airport_extreme (0x14E4, 0xD6), Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 5.100.198.104.5)Bluetooth: Version 2.4.5f3, 2 service, 12 devices, 1 incoming serial portsNetwork Service: AirPort, AirPort, en1Serial ATA Device: Hitachi HTS545050B9A302, 465.76 GBSerial ATA Device: MATSHITADVD-R UJ-8A8USB Device: FaceTime HD Camera (Built-in), 0x05ac (Apple Inc.), 0x8509, 0xfa200000 / 3USB Device: Hub, 0x0424 (SMSC), 0x2513, 0xfa100000 / 2USB Device: BRCM2070 Hub, 0x0a5c (Broadcom Corp.), 0x4500, 0xfa110000 / 5USB Device: Bluetooth USB Host Controller, 0x05ac (Apple Inc.), 0x821a, 0xfa113000 / 7USB Device: Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad, 0x05ac (Apple Inc.), 0x0245, 0xfa120000 / 4USB Device: Hub, 0x0424 (SMSC), 0x2513, 0xfd100000 / 2USB Device: IR Receiver, 0x05ac (Apple Inc.), 0x8242, 0xfd110000 / 3[/CODE]
Miuku.
Clicking sound? Drive, definitely - seen a bunch of them die, especially the awful Fujitsu ones they used at one point.

Miuku.
You can have mechanical failure in the drive and smart doesn't know anything about it. Back when I worked in IT I ran into more-than-a-few Seagate drives that reported "no issues" with the Seagate SeaTools+smart yet they got stuck reading certain areas of the disk (with the infamous clicking sound). Also had the same issues with my older MBP from 2007 and a Hitachi drive in it - system slowed down more and more and eventually click.. click.. usually it would give IO Error and recover but eventually it would simply choke on it. Switched to SSD, couldn't be happier.

.Neo
I ran a few HDD tests, like smart and everything checks out so far Your drive can be shot to pieces with Disk Utility still saying everything's just fine. I experienced exactly this with my previous iMac: At one point it took over ten minutes to get to the login screen and another six to load the desktop. It took the better part of the day to copy all the files to my external drive over FireWire 800(!). Turned out to be a faulty HDD. It got replaced and everything worked the way it should again. I'd say your HDD is broken as well.
ndoggfromhell
Sounds for sure like the drive is failing. Had a western digital in a MBP 13inch fail like this. I was able to plug it into my hackintosh and copy off the user folder. Using a program call "HDD Regenerator" in windows I was able to "repair the bad sectors" and actually cloned the drive entire for the user. YMMV, but you definitely are going to want to replace the drive.
ATLien_0
Since I am still under my 1 year warranty, will Apple replace the drive in this case?
Miuku.
Yes Sir, get it to Apple ASAP. Edit: You should prolly also let them know that "in your opinion it's unacceptable that a high price point machine has defective components that fail in under 12 months that should last years!" and that you should somehow be compensated for the time and effort you have to take to get it replaced. Last time I tried that on them, I got a gift card ;-)
