Perpertual Testing Initiative - Members Chamber

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone!

Since Valve has released their "Perpertual Testing Initiative" I tough it could be a good idea to make a thread with all members created chambers!

So let's start right away! Here is my first chamber :)

Oh my god, I do apologise for my last post, I used the word "never" instead of "next", it was supposed to say "next load up portal", which will probably be tomorrow. Sorry about that

Nice, great idea, and totally had forgotten this was released, so thanks for the reminder. Downloading through Steam on my Macbook now, and will head upstairs once it is done and install on my gaming PC. Really looking forward to what I know is going to be absolutely amazing releases from the community. I actually fully expect them to be better than the chambers included in the game itself. That is how much faith I have in the gaming community, especially those with the patience and talent to play with editors such as this. I really wish I had much more tolerance for using editors, being an artist my entire life I definitely have some ideas, I just never could force myself to sit down and make anything. Truth is I at the end of the day prefer to play them.

Actually I'm like you with games editors but this one is SOOOOO easy that it is fun to make them!

Yeah this is one of those simple editors, that allows you to quickly build a level based off of existing materials, objects etc. It isn't the full Hammer editor, so i think anyone could pick this up and make a decent stages in a couple of hours.

Some really good maps with the editor but it seems like the ones made with Hammer are a little better because they have more control and resources like the "12 Angry Test" maps ( http://steamcommunit...iles/?appid=620 ). There is one person who even changed the portal device to a gun that shoots Blue gel.

This guys have some really good maps:

That's always going to be true I think. The in-game editor is more just for people who don't have the time nor inclination to learn Hammer (i.e. me), but still want to make maps. Hopefully the in-game editor will bring about some really great test chambers.

It is rather addictive though, I've notched up 7 hours in the past 2 days putting together a test chamber and it's not even half done. Credit where it's due to the Portal map designers, making a portal test chamber is hard!

I must remind myself to try out those angry tests. I noticed them on the portal news feed on Steam and completely forgot to check them out.

made a real quick map, let me know

Not bad at all. My only comment would be that there's a lot of walking involved. Might be worth dotting some portalable walls around so we can portal between sections of the chamber quickly. Still, nice chamber :)

Oh wow, I didn't know you could do this. Can't wait to try some of these out.

They only added it in the latest update. According to steam though, there's 1111 pages of chambers ready to download and try :o

I really wish I had more time so I could make a map... some of the maps released so far are fantastic.

The cool thing is, the editor just uses VMF (Valve Map Format) files internally, so you can make a level in the editor and try it out, then load the file directly into Hammer for fine tuning.

Edit: I'm actually entirely wrong, it uses a new format called "P2C", which it converts to VMF when you publish/play the map (You can edit that as normal though)

Just made my second map :) I'll tell you it's quite a little challenge ;)

Enjoy ;)

Not bad, but I think I cheated.

I just set up the laser against the portalable wall, got on the light path, and placed my portals so that the light path ran right next to the exit. Then I just jumped off the light path, and got the laser to connect to activate the exit.

Nice chambers! I Liked the first and second ones (the second was my favourite). TBH I didn't much care for the third one though.

I didn't like that you had to die if you used the faith plates in the wrong order.
