Hi,

From time to time people usually my hardware support people assk me for the photos of various parts of my PC.

I don't have a digital camera or a webcam.

What is the cheapest way of taking such picures & sending them as e mail attachment ?

A cheap digital camera or a webcam or something else ?

Please do give specifics specs of such device & brand name if possible.

Also what kind of software do I need to capture such photos ?

Thanks

That sounds odd that they want actual photos of your hardware. Usually tech support would be fine with knowing your systems specifications by knowing the name/model of your hardware, which a program (free) like Everest Home Edition would tell you in a detailed report.

If you need actual photos I don't think a webcam would work, as the PC would need to be on in order for it to function. If you're taking photos of the internal hardware that may prove to be tricky. I think a cheaper digital camera would be fine (most come with the software you will need to upload and edit your photos). The cameras here are rather cheap (~$35-49+), but if this is all you will be doing with the camera then this might be suitable.

Disposable film camera - mail them the photos. If you don't have a digital camera and haven't thought about getting one, why start being modern now?

A semi-decent phone with a camera should do the job ))

Why not just bing the hardware part and send the result from the image search?

Oh Boy - I can only imagine how hilarious this whole story is.

Please tell us why you need this, and why they need pics, and who they are.

You ask for the cheapest way to take a picture ? It doesnt matter what youre taking a picture of.

Any camera will do, unless they need a closeup of some part. Im sure a couple of threads in here and you'll find you dont need "your hardware support guys" anymore.

But tell me the whole story behind the post.

I'm wondering if "the photos of various parts of my PC." actually means " Can you screenshot the app/error message/window and send it to us"

I was afraid of this but I atleast owe part of the story. Here it goes :

Few months ago, I bought the video card & it's bracket was bent so the guy on ebay wanted the picture of it eventhough I drew it using ms paint.

Then I wanted to put that video card in Dell PC but some people on a forum wanted the photo of my chassis.

I just asked Dell guy to send me the HDD tray that comes with Precision m/c & eventhough I gave him part number he wanted to see the photo of wht it looked like.

Do you want me to go on from the beginning ?

I am not crazy about taking pictures as such & do own old but good Nikon camera but no way in hell I am goint to use it & go get the photos printed.

So I am looking for an alternative but it drives me crazy with enormous number of choices.

Tell him you`ll send the part back [at his expense] and he can look at it there if he wont take your word for it.

Just tell them the model number on the Dell tag its easy enough to look up the images on google or specifications for the case

again he should be able to reference the dell part to the laptop model number he dont need a picture.

As suggested a pay as you go mobile with camera if fairly cheap shoud you still need to post images

Who does not have a digital camera of some sort these days? Do you not have a cell phone either - its almost impossible to buy one these days that doesn't have one.

So your saying their is too many choices is why you don't have one? Come on?? Go to nearest store - buy CHEAPEST one, take your picture - then if your really that cheap.. Return the camera.

Or just borrow one.. None of your friends have a digital camera or one on their phone? Do you live some Amish village or something? And you hide your computer in the fruit cellar so the elders do not find it?

I am kind of with +detection on this, with that MS Paint comment -- and who doesn't have a camera these days. I am thinking your just trying to have some fun at our expense here?

The cheapest way would be to get a blank sheet of paper and a pencil and draw a picture yourself.

First thing first : I sincerely Thank all of you who have taken time to read this post & reply & it doesn't matter if someone will insult me because I know who I am & why posted this.

This is an honest & genuine question & no, I am not having fun because there are much better & other ways to have fun rather than this forum where people are eager to help. No way I am going to lower myself to that level.

For the people who can't imagine my situation should know that I know of countries where some people do not have electricity & no cell phone. Those people should ask themselves why there are homeless people especially Veterns & their family who have sacrificed their lives in last two wars & starving children in a country like US. Just go & watch 60 minutes.

I love this forum & most people are here to help & not make fun unless they have the facts to back it up.

So far I am very pleased with your answers & have learned few things & for that I am grateful.
